When I ws a kid we all played together, the moms stayed home and there were kids everywhere. With rare exceptions the kids listened to and respected the adults as well as the property of others. We had block parties, everyone looked out for one another etc.

Anymore the scum quotient is way up. Plenty of losers who don't do their share, don't give a shit about others, their property, on whatever they want as instant gratification in their quest for the ultimate inself-indulgent. Their brats are obnoxious, on 3 different meds to control them unsuccessfully, and what adult wants to listen to shit from an obnoxious 8 year old.  You have dirtbags selling drugs out of their home down the block and even if you call the popo they won't do a fucking thing. Now who in the Hell would wnat to deal with that shit.
Easier to just keep to yourself.

If guilty is finding others of my own species lacking in morals, ethics, intelligence and common decency, then I am. Guilty that is. And you know something, I am far happier since I moved out in the boonies and keep to myself.  The number of people I am interested in having to my home I can count on 2 hands and feet, mostly all family.

As for myself, yeah I can be abrasive due to my impatience with others but I don't lie, cheat, steal, manipulate others or stab people in the fucking back. EVER. And I guess it is just too damn much to expect from others. Rather these are talents that seem to be held in high regard anymore to the detriment of all.

I wouldn't really call it hate, more a profound disappointment in what the human race has lowered itself to. So yeah, I don't want to be around most others.  However, in contrast to many of you, I would enjoy hanging out with ARFCOMMERS(1/2 of you anyway ) but there are none around here.

I think young people go with what's popular, and spend NO time really thinking about what they believe in.  Next time your Nephew/Niece whatever comes home from College ask them a few questions about our current political climate and see where they stand.  They'll be glad to tell you I'm sure, but, will probably have trouble telling you exactly why.    

Just remind them millions of lives were given so they could walk around and say whatever they want, however wrong it may be.

During/after Vietnam.

People have become soft, pampered, taught to expect instant gratification.  The idea of any REAL hardship is beyond them.  That leads to contempt and a willingness to simply say "fuck you" to anyone and anything that doesn't fit their idea of "perfect".

I've lead a charmed life and have never really wanted for much of anything, but my parents taught me well and I understand what they went through in the Depression and beyond (Dad was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7 and spent the entire war in the Pacific).

Between that and my being a history buff, I KNOW just how fucking cushy things are in this country compared to the way it has been but many (most) of our citizens have never known or have forgotten the Hard Times that have come before.

I will get worse before it gets better.  I see the economy becoming more a house of cards/shell game than ever before.  The DISGUST that those on BOTH sides feel for the cockroaches that infest our government is growing day by day.

I love my country and I DETEST the current state of politics and perverted legal system that is taking us closer to the brink every day.

I'm very firmly in drjarhead's camp on this one.  It's going to get FAR more ugly before it gets better.

Hey, I'm a Kiwi and just trying to lighten the mood.  Actually, I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a serious thread this much.  I chose to live here for the same reasons people came here hundreds of years ago, most of it centers around the opportunity for hope.  

Fewer and fewer places offer the same amount of hope that the U.S. provides today. Regardless of the fact that we are at war things still seem to be attainable - houses, cars, lifestyle or what ever.

I have had the good fortune to be able to live in several countries over the course of the last 25 years and am thankful that the U.S. has allowed me the opportunity to send my two girls to college, to buy my 1964 GMC pickup, to have a boat with a 496 cubic inch engine, to take my wife to dinner on a regular basis, to own my choice of guns and use them whenever I want, to be able to choose my religion...or not, to get up in the morning and know that whatever I do that day is my choice.

It doesn't come down to one person, (i.e. the President), it comes down to all of us...

In the 1960s.  By then, the subversives had an opportunity to worm their way into the educational system, spread their poison, and raise a new generation of "thinkers", their way.  One of the methods espoused by the Fabian society is to get into the educational system where they can "mold young minds."  They started very slightly in the 1940s, spread more in the 1950s and were in full swing in the 1960s.  Though Viet Nam wasn't a cause, it was a convenient rallying point.

I spent close to 24 years in the USN and have travelled the world several times over, and seen things that would make a grown man puke this guts out. A guy who's been cut in half at the waist who hangs on until his mother arrives from the US is disheartening and sad, no mother should have to bury half her son while the fish in Hong Kong bay eat the rest.

The saddening thing about the bigots here is that there are so many of them - like a cancer that destroys the United States. The level of hatred here is among the worst things I've seen as it's so wide spread - people here are not afraid of displaying their bigotry here on the Internet. In person people are more civil but here you can get a look beneith the surface. Hundreds of examples of truely ingornant and some stupid people displaying their hatred of America and Americans. This is suppose to be a Christian nation - the religion of love thy neighbor.

The one lesson I learned in the couple of dozen countries and dozen states that I've lived in is that people are people - black, white, yellow, brown, Christian, Buddhist, rich, and poor, whatever. When the popular thing to do was to hate the Soviets I met several of them - just people. There are good and bad people of every color, creed, religion, and national origin. With too many people here it's just as easy to hate.


It ain't just here bud. Joining the Marines in the 70s, and seeing some of the country from that view, was a truly illuminating experience. I could tell more than a few stories also.  I have told some of them here.


As an examples from just yesterday:

"Starting to understand why the red states pray for tsunamis and earthquakes are you?"

"I don't know about hurricanes, but I've asked for The Big One to hit Kali more than once."

We love the hate. IIRC my post 5,000 was an ode to the level of hatred here - and that was years and years ago and little has change. There are lots of wonderful people here no doubt and don't get me wrong - they are in the majority but the losers are too many.



Yeah, the site has changed a lot in the past few years. Some good, GD has sure gotten interesting.
But I'm no saint, nor do I claim to be. I try to be a good person and expect the same of others. In that I have been woefully disappointed. As such I keep to myslef and come here a lot. At least there are some people with whom I have some things in common.

I've lived in Kali Bro. I could never live there again. For whatever that's worth.

You are a decent guy. One of the finer here. Don't let it get you down. Try to elevate others to your level. Don't waste your time on me though, I am a lost cause.

The 1960's. That's when it happened.

There have been 3 crucial, and traumatic injuries to this country:

1.  The Civil War (which was set in motion by a birth defect of this country)

2.  The Great Depression, which stemmed from economic ignorance that has been remedied

3.  The Sixties and institutionalization of leftist ideas in America.  Gladly, their ideas seem to have no legs and the young people not interested or climbing onto a sinking ship in significant numbers.  But make no mistake, their stupid ideas need stakes driven through their hearts one by one.  I think we are winning on that.

We swung the pendulum a little ways back to the right but not that much.
While there were gains, even under Reagan we still lost ground in some ways.

Since this is a gunsite, if you look at guns we lost in the 86 MG ban while FOPA helped us some. In '89 Bush Sr put the coupe de gras on the '68 GCA, traitorous bastard he was.

Under Clinton we lost more ground.
At the heart of it, at the heart of our losses is the destruction of the family. That has worsened, not gotten better. Until we put that back togehter the rest will not resolve.
That and the socialist takeover of the education system. That is profound. I doubt whether most anyone alive realizes the impact of that one. The NEA is a communist organization, plain and simple.  I grew up with my sister who is a teacher. She lived with my wife and I for 2 years while in college. To hear the communist NEA indoctrinated bullshit she spews now is incredible. I know plenty more teachers. Most are 60's rejects or were indoctrinated by them.


That's how I view it.

I really like me. But I am a realist and I see the direction we have come and where we are heading. Yes, many things are changing for the better but not enough and all the while Republicans are betraying this country with their border policy.
I truly hope you are correct and I am wrong but the direction we are heading seems unsustainable to me with regards to this nation's fiscal health, security and social well being. Yeah, the pendulum may have swung some to the right but the overall trend is for it to swing further each time to the left.  We will see.  Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Let me tell you something......


If that ever happens, I will be posting some of the most positive shit you have ever seen!

I've had some pretty cool pts but they don't make for good stories. It's about 50/50 most days. Let's just say that people who go to the doc all the time have a few issues and while the numbers may not be huge they make up a sizable number of visits due to the frequency with which they come in.

So now, about that MP5.....

Pssst... The ports were already controlled by a foregin investment firm. Did you know that the UAE owns or partly owns many refineries in the US? Or power plants? Or a whole lot of other stuff? Probably not. Did you also know that the investment firm in the UAE was not going to change a single thing at the ports? Probably didn't know that either.

All that was going to happen is the people who make the profits were going to be different.

Talk to your kids, trust me, it makes a huge difference. You won't believe how you will influence them by explaining things to them. Listening helps helps too. I had relatives who openly discussed what was right and wrong, politics and everything under the sun. Those discussions still stick with me and have influnced and guided me through my life.

My sister in law used to go to the range and shoot with me sit and talk about politics and everything else. She went to college and got a job in an goverment office, now she doesn't even want to hear the word "gun" and according to her we're a bunch of rednecks who don't know a thing about politics because we disagree with her new liberal ideals. Funny how people change. She had very little interaction from her parents and has made her own decisions based on what her co workers and bosses think. It's pretty sad.

A distinction must be drawn between "my country" and the "government".  They are not the same.  I'll always love my country. I have seldom loved the government running or ruining my country.

The Vietnam war was when it became "tre chic" to shit on the USA.  They should have respected the soldiers, loved their country, and focused their complaints on the assholes pulling the strings and fucking up the works.  Kinda like today.
