I would like to relate two stories on immigration which I believe demonstrates the mind set of those in power( I no longer refer to them as "the government" because they no longer govern, but now RULE)
A few years ago before 9-11 in the town of Newtown Pa. an officer pulled over a car with two mexicans in it. They had no ID,registration, license, inspection, etc. The officer calls the station, and the station calls the Feds and they wait. Fed says let them go because we are under staffed and can't make it out there.
Now lets review. If that was you or I, we would be fined for the following.
1. no license
2. no registration
3. no insurance
4. no inspection
5. no ID on your person
YOU would be fined hundreds of dollars and your car towed, but an undocumented foriegner drives away on U.S. soil. THAT IS A DOUBLE STANDARD OF LAW!!!! Our founding fathers faught against taxes without representation. In the case above YOU must pay to put your car on the road with your hard earned dollars or be fined, but others do not. Not only that but then you're are taxed to provide services to "ILLEGALS"
Story number 2;
A good friend who is a officer pulls over two guys in a car at night at the US steel Fairless Works in Fairless Hills Pa. They are from some Eastern block country. Same story no ID, blah, blah, blah.(this is after 9-11)
He calls station, station calls feds, feds say let em go. My friend asks "what about the tickets". Station says, "don't waste the paper"
And for those who think they will pass laws and vote their way out of this immigration nightmare should consider prop 187 in California that was PASSED by the people but OVERTURNED by a judge.
If you are scratching you head lately as you watch the news trying to figure it all out, think of it this wat. YOU ARE NO LONGER A CITIZEN, BUT AN EMPLOYEE. YOU NO LONGER HAVE RIGHTS, OR THE GOVERNMENT ANSWERS TO YOU. YOU! ANSWER TO THE GOVERNMENT.
Its time for some seriuos thought!

I never even knew that Newtown had their own police until I saw a car one day set up on State street where it goes from 45mph to 25mph

As you said, that was before 9/11 - I am curious to see how it might be handled today.
As far as I am concerned, at some level, there are going to be double standards. I dont like it, but its reality. For every traffic stop in Newtown proper that fails to net a criminal, 50 crimes were most likely commited down in Philly during the same time period. Im not saying its no big deal, but if I was controlling the purse strings, or if I was allocating federal agents to do investigations, I would concentrate them where the clear and present issue existed....about 20 miles due south

Not at all. It's just time for the gov't to enforce its laws and pass some additional ones making immigration violations a felony, and thus disqualify those people from being able to legally immigrate in the future. Then provide adequate funding for enforcement. If they have to increase taxes then so be it. I don't think anyone here will argue with increased taxes for law enforcement or military.

What I did to immigrate legally:

1) $10,000 for lawyer fees, travel costs, medical evalution fee, gov't fees, etc. (No, these were not paid for by my employer.)

2) Medical exam including urine drug screen, documentation of all U.S. required vaccinations (including childhood communicable diseases, Hep B, etc.), TB skin test, chest X-ray to rule out active pulmonary tuberculosis, additional miscellaneous blood work including an HIV test.

3) Every scrap of paper they think may be useful in making their decision including birth certificate, passport, marriage certificate, copies of your degrees and all government required examinations for those degrees, a copy of all immigration documents previously issued to you, etc.

4) Signed statement saying that you are not a Nazi or Communist. (seriously)

5) Criminal background check from country of origin (Canada).

6) Photograph and fingerprinting.

7) Proof from sponsoring employer that the job was adequately advertised to qualified U.S. citizens first.

7) Detailed Green Card interview with an Immigration officer.

Anyone who doesn't want to go through the process doesn't deserve to be here.

If you think that illegal aliens are routinely let go on traffic stops that other people would get tickets for you're off your rocker. There was nothing stopping that police officer in Newton from writing those "mexicans" (how did he know they were mexicans with no id etc etc, why not puerto ricans or colombians? were they speaking "mexican"?) all the tickets he wanted, the feds have no power to tell local cops to not write tickets.

Sounds like you have some lazy ass policemen in Pennsylvania

What is important to remember is that it's often said that this country was an experiment in democracy. And with all experiments, things don't always go as planned. It's also often said that the framers of the Constitution were brilliant men. Perhaps for the time, but I find that they were more than a bit short-sighted. It appears that they believed that the federal government would always be the body to keep in check. As is pretty obvious, the states are just as bad if not worse. The state's ability to tax is absurd. Take for example the so-called "use tax"...wherein a state that one resides in charges its residents sales tax for any purchases made out of state, even if you didn't live there when the purchase was made! What the framers SHOULD have done was put a strict percentage limit on taxes...both federal and state. The fact is that we are well into becoming a socialist society, like it or not. The constitution is being outright ignored or "redefined" by the courts with increasing frequency with each passing year. In a short 300 years this country has gone the way of all the others...the rich and powerful call the shots, and the general population provides money for the politicians to piss away to further their political careers. And it's our own fault to a great degree. As long as people insist on voting a two party system, or not voting at all, nothing will change. Our two parties are like two lawyers on opposing sides...they argue like hell when the news cameras are rolling, then have dinner and drinks together planning the next day's soap opera.

If you want to divide a country, then having more than one official language is one of many ways to do it. Though I spoke French growing up (learned it in school), if you don't speak with the correct accent then those French Canadian fuckers will act like they don't even understand your French, let alone your English!

Speaking some rudimentory English, as proven by an exam, should be a requirement before being allowed to immigrate to the U.S.

So if I get pulled over tonight all I have to do is say, "Sorry officer, no license!" and I am free as a bird? You should write a book for Palladin Press on getting out of tickets as you have hit on a revolutionary tactic here.

First off don't call me "knucklehead" Second Special Order 40 applies only to the LAPD, which is not the same thing as "California Cops" and it does not prevent arrest of illegals on state charges, such as you describe in your "examples" rather it prevents them from inquiring about immigration status. Therefore an LAPD officer could write all the tickets he wanted to any illegals he pulled over.

Now what this has to do with your fictional-and I say fictional because I don't believe a word of your first post-has to do with your fictional PA cop being told to let the fictional illegals go by the fictional federal agent, I have no idea.

Wa wa wa. What is it with all this "it's not fair! We would have been...!!"
Guess what. The immigration issue is not their domain. Some agencies, believe it or not, don't really push the V & T stuff, which is the tickets you mentioned.
I stopped an illegal Guatamalan a few weeks ago, he got all of the tickets you mentioned plus some, the car got towed and he went to jail. It still happens.
