All I want to do is replace the foam in my rifle case, yet I can't find any decent foam that will do the job for a reasonable price.

Anyone ever redo the foam in their rifle case? Where did you get it and what type?

you can find couch cushion type foam at most craft stores. if you want egg crate foam, get a cheapie mattress pad and cut it up

Try the "Container Store".

I'm facing the same problem.

Another hurdle is that when you find a piece, the price tag is outrageous.

Foam isn't cheap.

You are looking for polyurethane ester if you want soft, open cell foam or polyethylene (trade name - Ethafoam) if you want the harder, closed cell foam.

Typically 1.3 to 2.2 pcf would be the preferred densities

Convoluted foam is the egg crate type stuff

Try an upholstery supply house. The have the different sizes of the higher density foam. That is where I purchased mine.

I'd suggest you buy a cheap ($10) gun case, and just pull the foam out of that.

Heck, they sell the whole thing for less than the cost of the foam

We had a product backordered because of foam. Story was that Katrina interrupted the oil rigs supply of raw material.

You're better off ordering it online. The stuff that craft stores seem to usually carry is way too soft and too thin for a gun case padding. Places like "FoamByMail" sell material that is the same as what commercial-production cases come with.

I bought a big sheet of foam at JoAnn Fabrics...It was on sale and I got enough to redo my Pelican I bought second hand. only downside...it's a sea green in color. Oh well, It ain't perfect but it works.

I'll try to take a picture later today.
