Went to a gun shop yesterday looking for some thing else but saw one of these and played with it for a while. Now I really really want one. HELP
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:06:09 AM EDT
That horrible plastic grip
Slightly expensive ammo
Overpriced IMO

....but it maybe banned if the libs have their way so it may grow in value over time.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:08:48 AM EDT
Dont.............

Sorry, thats the best I got.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:13:48 AM EDT
The 5.7rnd has anemic terminal performance even if it does penetrate body armor.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:15:34 AM EDT
I think ammo will come down. The thought of it being banned has some appeal though.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:17:20 AM EDT
What would Jack Bauer do?
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:18:47 AM EDT
Don't do it.

I don't have any reason for saying that, but you asked.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:20:33 AM EDT
Someone talk me out of buying a FN five seven

Senators, Dianne Feinstein, Chucky Schumer, Carl Levin and Sarah Brady don't want you to have one.

Oh, you said talk you OUT of buying one.

I take it you've got a lot of wounded canaries or perhaps voles skittering about your place.

Not to mention either very poor judgement or too much expendable income.

Ahh...Fuck it, buy it 'cause it makes your potty tingle.

Have fun.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:24:10 AM EDT
a CZ-52 will do the same thing for a lot less money.

Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:30:21 AM EDT
Ammo is expensive and hard to find, at least around here.
It's on the big side as a CCW, and not the best choice (IMO) for that kind of money for a home defense weapon. Frankly, there are better ways to spend that much money.

I shot one and loved it. The 'cool factor' alone made it fun to shoot, but I cant justify the price for what would really just be a safe toy. It serves no practical purpose for me that I dont have other, better tools.

The best argument I can make FOR buying one though.....it will piss off liberals
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 3:43:53 AM EDT
Wouldn't be buying it for HD-got other things for that. I think the cool factor and it is supposed to be tack driver are whats getting me. It's definetly a lot of money for a toy, but you can't take it with you.

so I guess you shouldn't

buy one

because you could be killed by Jack Bauer

I'd wait until they show up in Shotgun News for 199$.

There are better and more effective PISTOLS for HALF the price.

There is better and more effective AMMO for about HALF the price.

Many indoor ranges will not allow them.

If you are so worried about what a few senators don't want you to have , go buy another AR-15 for the same money, it will take you farther.

Yeah what he said! they have only been making them since 1994(12 years) and they are selling like hotcakes for a handgun that cost that much...production is behind orders for them..wolf ammo going to start production this year, starline is going to make brass cases for reloaders... 1 bolt rifle and two more semi auto rifles have made in the caliber and are about to be marketed(thats besides the FN PS90), TC contender barrels are in the works...yep it will go away just like a Dardick Tround, maybee like today by lunchtime or something.

Save your money for the 5.7mm PDW. That is what I plan to do.

Who exactly would be making these bolt and semi-auto rifles?

As for the ammo, The whole purpose behind this pistol is to DEFEAT ARMOR. Without the specific ammunition to allow that it's just another .22 Mag.

Do you really need a .22 Magnum?

How many .22 magnums make Fienswine and Sarah Brady toss and turn in their sleep at night?

I had money, all of it, waiting on a PS90.

I was getting it 600-800 cheaper than what most of you guys here are paying for them (silly).

The ammo is the main reason why I no longer want it. It is an odd, expensive round and the people who make what is needed to do your own reloads know this so they charge a good clip as well.

To me, the gimmicks are not worth it. I want to be able to shoot what I own and how much I want to shoot it.

The ammo man, the ammo....

Hell, for ~$800, I'd build another AR and be well on my way to another Garand. That would make them sleep for shit too.

safety is gay, and it over priced..
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 6:03:07 AM EDT
Is anyone making a bolt gun or hunting style semi in this caliber? It's make a great light varmit round, and would be easier to reload than a .22 Hornet.

The safety is in a very smart place if you keep your finger along the frame prior to firing. In one quick motion, when the decision is made to fire, you can flick off the safety and start the trigger on its travel.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 6:14:43 AM EDT
overpriced, underpowered, toy. nothing more.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 6:19:49 AM EDT
Given the terminal ballistics of the 5.7 round...you'll be able to say, without hesitiation, that you're truly prepared to 'bust a cap' in someone's ass.

Outside of penetrating body armor at close ranges...why would you even want one?

Answer: because you can!

Good luck in talking yourself out of it, you won't!

Who cares about it's ballistic performance or polymer construction or price?
It's another horse in the stable in my eyes, and it's the next pistol on my list.
Why not? If you don't like it you could sell it just as easily... everybody wants one, even if they say they don't.
Anger Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Sarah Brady, Diane Feinstein. Buy it. Then get and wear often a t-shirt that says you have an evil cop killer armor piercing pistol.

So what? She does not want you to have anything else either. Should I rush out and buy a Thompson Contender in .35 Whelen because of that? (at least it would be more effective than a 5.7 pistol)

Sure, if you want to spend your money that way.

That's what's great about this nation, you can chose, and it doesn't have to be rational.

I've seen more robust controls on a Super Soaker. It looks like you could snap the plastic safety and slide catch right off by drawing it quickly from a holster.

I can't really talk you out of it, unless you hate having safe queens around. Might be a good thing to tuck away for a few years, because you damn sure won't be able to afford to shoot it anytime soon.

+1 The REAL (armor piercing) ammo is not available, from what I understand. And the regular 5.7 ammo does not have the penetration charactersistics of the real stuff.

Save your money for another 1911, actually, buy two 1911s and you'll feel better.

that's the way I've understood it as well, but...I've never owned one or been shot with one to know the difference

The 5.7x28 ammo is so weak that it won't even go through drywall. 45 Auto, OTOH, will take down satellites and blow up tanks with a single shot. In fact, NASA has banned the use of 45 Auto in space because the shockwave from firing one in the vacuum of space will cause a tear in the space/time continuum.

in space, wouldn't the bullet stay put and send the shooter rocketing backward into a moon crater or something?

No... buy it, buy two or three... they piss liberals off something fierce.
This, my friend, is what I base ALL of my gun purchases on.

For one thing, you'll get better tech support than Glock. People actually pick up their phones at FN.
Link Posted: 3/22/2006 12:44:22 PM EDT
I would pick another gun.

We shot the P90 a couple weeks ago, basically throws glorified 22 magnums...hooray...uh no.

They put nice dings in steel targets.

Get a 9mm.

Well, it's not like I spent a lot of time handling it. After my initial giggles I gave it back and moved on to fondle real guns.
