If you had no financial concerns and you are able, how many children would you have?

My wife and I had talked about this many times in past and she always wanted 2 kids while I always wanted 4. Recently we compromised and decided to have 3 kids. Ideally it would be boy, boy, girl.

I have the first boy part done so we'll have to work on the second boy in about a year or so.

How about you?

I'm at a point in my life where I have no real finacial concerns.

I would want 2, a boy and a girl.

The trick is finding chicks that don't have any, that want some.

We had 2. They are both grownup. Been there done that. I enjoyed them growing up.

Now if I was an illegal alien, I guess I'd say...I don't know...about 18.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:48:52 PM EDT
I think 2 is a good number.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:49:07 PM EDT
No financial worries?

Probably a dozen or so.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:49:41 PM EDT
2 with a max of 3

My wife and I discussed this several times, and we both thought we would have 6 or more if money were not an issue. We'd love a big family.

Being that money is an issue (it's an issue to all of us who want to give our children a decent upbringing) we've decided on 2 for now, maybe 1 more in a few years.

We sure do wish we could afford more though.

Maybe I'll just stop working hard every day and so will my wife, and we'll both go on welfare and not worry about bills anymore. Sound familiar?

We had four.

(Two of each!)

I'm done, one is enough for me. When he turns 18 in nine years I will be 37 and I want to be free and clear after that. We will see if the free and clear part actually happens at that point, not holding my breath though

ETA: If money was no object I would still feel the same way, it isn't about the money, it is about the responsibility.

a 10 kid unit

No financial concerns?

However many my future wife and I may produce/adopt.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:55:10 PM EDT
2. I would like to think I'll coach my sons baseball/hockey/football teams one day.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:56:10 PM EDT
If I were a millionaire or dirt poor, the answer is the same: One.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:57:20 PM EDT
I always figured that one kid isn't enough,

, but two kids is WAY too many.

On the other hand, in these politicly correct times, probably should have THREE kids,

, one of each.

I love my freedom.
And I would hate to be one of those parents who depends on nannies.

Already have two, going to have one more in a few years.

But only if I also had a lot of free time to spend with them. That's my limiting factor.

None and at 40+ Thank Goodness I never wanted one

6-8, maybe more.
I have 2.

I love being a Dad. Best thing I ever did, never regretted any of it, not even for a minute.
If I had the cash I would give my kids a lump sum gift at the birth of each grandkid.

I had a pretty tough life growing up, went into the service to pay for college, wife stayed home with the kids when they were small and then I decided to go to medschool, residency, etc. By the time all of that was done my two were getting older and having more just didn't seem like the best option.

At least 6. Yeah.

Got two and I would have had four or five if I'd have started younger and the financial issues weren't present.

Kids rock. Those of you who don't want 'em I feel sorry for your childhood memories...they must have sucked. I had a great childhood, felt loved and supported, and generally was very happy. Hoping my children feel the same way.....excuse me while I go wrestle with my beast of a three year old daughter!
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:09:02 PM EDT
probably 2. gotta keep it at at least the replacement level. can't let the demoncraps outbreed us....
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:10:27 PM EDT
I have 5, ages 16,19,21,23 and 30. Plus a 12 year old step-daughter.

They have always made my life interesting.

Man I can't believe how many people don't want kids. That's nuts. After I'm married and am making good money to support myself and family, I want two. One boy, one girl. Maybe two boys.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:19:38 PM EDT
I have my second son on the way.......soon.

3. Dunno why.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:24:24 PM EDT
Thinking on it, I wasn't done having kids after my four, the decision isn't mine. If it were up to me, I'd have at least two more.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:26:37 PM EDT
At least 8.

Maybe 10.

But since we are not financially well off we are going to stick with 4, I believe.

We have a three year old girl and a week old boy. I don't think I could handle more than two! It's not a money thing, it is a time thing. How do you have quality time with both kids, your husband and yourself? But I love being a mom, I wouldn't change it for anything.

I think three is the lucky number for me.

Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:51:37 PM EDT
If money were of no concern, I'd like to have 6.

My family in Hawaii is huge, with 100+ relatives on Oahu alone.

I only have a sister, but would have loved to have had more siblings.

I'll tell you this much, Chri$tma$ time in Hawaii is rough with that much family.
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 1:55:30 PM EDT

I don't have any right now, but if we do have kids I'd say two to three. Whether we can barely make it financially or whether Bill Gates comes to me for loans makes no difference.

Might make a difference on what kind of car I drive them around in, though.

I have three children and will not have anymore. If I won the lottery I would adopt. Not sure how many, I would leave that to the Lord to decide. I wouldn't necessarily want a baby, but would enjoy giving a home to some older children in need. I absolutely adore children but hate being pregnant.

Sort of disturbing that no one wants kids, including myself. Can we get some reasons?

Mine would be that I don't want to put a kid through life in this messed up country, where everything I would try to teach would be immediately counteracted as soon as the kid goes to school.

Don't get me wrong, kids are great. As long as their someone elses, and I can fill them with candy before handing them back to their parents.
