Clip from Helen Thomas' Questioning:

On the decision to invade

QUESTION: I'd like to ask you, Mr. President -- your decision to invade Iraq has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis, wounds of Americans and Iraqis for a lifetime.

Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is: Why did you really want to go to war? From the moment you stepped into the White House, your Cabinet officers, former Cabinet officers, intelligence people and so forth -- but what's your real reason? You have said it wasn't oil, the quest for oil. It hasn't been Israel or anything else. What was it?

BUSH: I think your premise, in all due respect to your question and to you as a lifelong journalist -- that I didn't want war. To assume I wanted war is just flat wrong, Helen, in all due respect.

QUESTION: And...

BUSH: Hold on for a second, please. Excuse me. Excuse me.

No president wants war. Everything you may have heard is that, but it's just simply not true.

My attitude about the defense of this country changed on September the 11th. When we got attacked, I vowed then and there to use every asset at my disposal to protect the American people.

Our foreign policy changed on that day. You know, we used to think we were secure because of oceans and previous diplomacy. But we realized on September the 11th, 2001, that killers could destroy innocent life.

And I'm never going to forget it. And I'm never going to forget the vow I made to the American people, that we will do everything in our power to protect our people.

Part of that meant to make sure that we didn't allow people to provide safe haven to an enemy, and that's why I went into Iraq.

Afghanistan provided safe haven for Al Qaida. That's where they trained, that's where they plotted, that's where they planned the attacks that killed thousands of innocent Americans.

I also saw a threat in Iraq. I was hoping to solve this problem diplomatically. That's why I went to the Security Council. That's why it was important to pass 1441, which was unanimously passed.

And the world said, "Disarm, disclose or face serious consequences." And therefore, we worked with the world. We worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world.

And when he chose to deny the inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did. And the world is safer for it.

QUESTION: Thank you, sir. Secretary Rumsfeld...

BUSH: You're welcome.

I didn't really regret it. I kind of semi-regretted it.

She'll ignore it.

Someone just needs to ban her from the White House. Maybe from Earth.

I wonder how the other commie "journalists" can stand sitting next to her with her leaky DEPENDS ?

Funny....this "lifelong journalist" still has to resort to liberal talking points that everyone is already sick of.

At least she is a hottie.

my one response for GWB, and I am sure its something many will echo.

If you really want to do everything in your power, Mr. President, then, FOR THE SAKE OF THE NATION SECURE OUR BORDERS!

What the media refused to acknowledge is that even the Clinton administration realized and stated that the "policy of containment" in regard of Iraq is unsustainable and regime change is necessary I believe Albright said that). Both Bush's and Clinton's administration held similar view: Saddam just got to go. Tthe difference is that Bush had the courage and determination to do it.

I hope people realized that Saddam was very close to being successful in having the UN sanction against him lifted (with the help of France, Russia and China), which would allow him to continue / rebuild his WMD programs (and also to rebuild his military). Had we not invaded, we would be facing a much stronger and dangerous enemy.

Just my opinion.

Missed it...

I think that tonight all of America will miss it to on the news.

I like when reporters are the debate and they no longer cover the debate

Is she still working? I thought she quit in a huff after he snubbed her at a press conference by not calling her first as was traditional. Of course, this was right after she published an opinon piece on how GWB was a horrible president.

<snippet> Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is: Why did you really want to go to war? <snipet>

Here, she tailored her question as to insinuate that Bush lied, that he made up bogus reasons and faulty evidence to go to war. If Bush lied, then the whole world had also lied, because the fact of the matter is that every nation (well, almost) on this planet shared the same believe that Saddam was still in possession of WMDs. Was it not the UN who passed Resolution 1441 requiring Saddam to prove that he had no WMDs, but he failed to do so, hence he suffered the consequences? How did Bush lied if France, Russia, Germany, etc, etc, shared the same believe and intelligence?

And one more point, WMD was only one reason for Bush to invade Iraq. There are many other reasons for the war, including Saddam's attrocities against his own people. So Bush administration lied about that, too? Numerous evidence of Saddam's attrocities such as mass graves did not speak for themselves? I bet if Clinton elected to invade Iraq, he would be hailed by the leftist media as the biggest American hero / humanitarian who dared to remove a beligerent dictator.

Hopefully she'll be dead soon and someone can carve's Bush's response on her headstone. Burn in hell!

You'd think the libs would be embarassed by that senile, delusional old bag - but then, nothing embarasses a lib - they're fairly shameless, as long as the agenda is being put forth...

I don't watch much TV and have never heard of this woman. I did find a video of here though. Not the video, but it certainly demonstrates what's been said about her in this thread.

I pondered saying something to her, but a wave of nausea prevented me. I also rode next to Tom Daschle flying out of Sioux Falls once. Same thing happenned.

Actually, I think he was pretty kind to the old bitch. Here is what I'd have said:

Helen, WADR, you could NOT be more wrong. Further, you have, over time during my tenure made it crystal clear that your "questions" that you bring to these press conferences are nothing more than liberal screeds designed to politically injure me and my administration. You source information is obviously incomplete and incredibly biased to the Left, your rudeness to the office of the president is disgusting to most Americans and your questions are not questions, but liberal rantings with an anti-American, socialist agenda.

Helen, thanks for your silly question: You have now shown the entire country how much of a dimwit you really are.

You may now leave, since you will never be called upon again.

Link Posted: 3/21/2006 11:58:40 AM EDT
Thats why I voted for him, Things like that. If Gore or Kerry had been in his situation we would still be deciding what to do while whining to the UN, and probably have been attacked since
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:05:56 PM EDT
Why can't he get that message out more often. More forcefully. Work to keep the public behind it rather than sit quietly and send out Scott to repeat himself over and over.

Every so often he reminds me why I voted for him, and that is a big reminder there, but damn it's few and far between.

Helen Thomas should be dropped out of a plane over Baghdad

oops, I meant her leaflets
Link Posted: 3/21/2006 12:17:23 PM EDT

This incident was reported on ABC NewsRadio here (The ABC is like your PBS, with the same political slant).

The tape was cut at

Afghanistan provided safe haven for Al Qaida. That's where they trained, that's where they plotted, that's where they planned the attacks that killed thousands of innocent Americans.

So it made Bush sound like he was avoiding the question. Then they had an interview the the journo that was asking the "question", and she basically claimed that he misdirected , and theat she felt that it was her responsibility to be "cheeky" to Presidents, all the way back to Kennedy. She sounds like a credit to her profession

Totally befitting of the situation - too bad GWB is too much of a gentleman to say that... I'd have to give him a free pass if he did, though - she certainly has it coming...
