Poll incomming

So my sister-in-law is 18, getting married to an 27 y/o. They started dating when she was 17 and he was 26. I know the guy and he is a really good guy. Marine veteran and did 1 tour in OIF. I know they were screwing before she turned 18. Now, my personal belief is that people think that a older guy dating a young woman is bad because he is taking advantage of her. Well the opposite is true. She takes advatage of him. She is the boss, she controls him. I dont think it was bad they were sleeping together before she was 18. Yes her parents knew about his age. They nowlive together and are getting married soon. So, was it a mistake for him to be getting the pie?

Was he stupid for involving himself in a relationship which will be naturally crippled by an excessive age gap? YES. Who you are at 17 and who you are at 27 are two totally different people, with different values and priorities.

Bad.

A 26-year-old guy fooling around with a 17-year-old? This speaks more of his immaturity than it does of her maturity.

When I was 26, I wasn't interested in hanging out with teenagers.

Is he lucky getting a young girl? "No comment".

And BTW, the law doesn't mean shit either. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right, especially with this subject.

Nevermind just the states, look at it all over the world, in some of the "Enlightened" Euro countries it's as low as 13.

Like being a Marine makes you a good guy.
Being a Marine guarantees one thing - he was fucking horny and he wanted to fuck the hell out of her.
Who cares what other people do?
If it is a healthy relationship, who cares?
If it is not, she won't listen to you anyway.

I don't like that there's a difference in age of consent between boys and girls in some states. 16/18? 14/16? Besides being discrimanatory it runs counter to common wisdom -- girls are mature (emotionally as well as physically) at a younger age than boys. So if anything it should be the other way around!

P.S. I've got no daughters.

Right, it won't last unless he likes being a door mat, and she continues enjoying the use of one.

Been there, done that....not worth the damn headaches. I was 24, her just turned 18. What can be a fine and mature teenager will most likely be a self destructive, immature freak once they hit 21, just aching to go sow some oats...or get sown I guess.

And NO, we didnt do nothing before she was 18.

And Im only 20 anyways. lol.

She - 17, he - 26

She - 16, he 25

She - 15, he 24

She - 14, he 23

She - 13, he 22

She - 12, he 21

She - 11, he 20

She - 10, he 19

She - 9, he 18

She - 8, he 17 - okay, now we have him as a legal child also. Still think it's okay?

+1,000,000

There's nothing wrong with her, dating a man is what most 18 year old girls want. However, a grown man with the whole world to pick from, and has to turn to a teenager for a relationship is telling you something with his choice.

I don't know that I'd stop such a relationship from happening, but I think it reeks of douchebaggery on the man's part.

Age of consent is 16 in OH. Just can't give them cigarettes or alcohol, and must have them home by 11.
Link Posted: 3/20/2006 7:26:09 AM EDT
We make far too much a deal about the age thing. For the first 30,000 years of human civilization the man was always a lot older than the woman. Heck, St. Augustine was in his 30s, I believe, when he married his FOURTEEN year old wife. And he's a figgen SAINT.

Link Posted: 3/20/2006 7:32:47 AM EDT
I married my first wife when I was 24 and she was 18.

We started dating when she was 17, but it was legal in Illinois.

Notice I said it was my first wife. What a mistake that was.

Link Posted: 3/20/2006 7:36:46 AM EDT
Up until 50 or so years ago no one would have given it a second glance assuming they were married. Some of our founding fathers were into the young ladies. Frankly, as long as they're fully developed it may be a little wierd, but I wouldn't really call it "wrong".
Link Posted: 3/20/2006 7:50:13 AM EDT
When I was in high school in the late-60s, one of the teachers was dating a student. Last I heard, a year a go, they were still married(37 years), they have 3 grown children and some various grandchildren. She was 17 when they met, and I think he was 25.
Link Posted: 3/20/2006 7:57:48 AM EDT
i can see why a 60 year old might be interested in a 35 year old, but why would a 27 year old be interested in a 17 year old--other than the obvious? sure, it would be great to be hittin' a hard 17 year old body on a regular basis, but once the fuckin' is over all you have left is talking-and unless he's just as interested in the latest brittany spears gossip, he's in for some boredom.

They're getting married. That shows his intentions are honorable, and I don't see how anyone could have a problem with it.

However, a grown man with the whole world to pick from, and has to turn to a teenager for a relationship is telling you something with his choice.

A whole world? I know a lot of single girls between the ages of 25 and 35, and not a one is interested in dating or marriage. I could name more than a hundred males that are either related to me, worked with me, or are children of employees that are interested in dating and marriage but haven't in years because there are no females interested in those things in their age range. The pickings are sparse for someone his age. Around a military base, it's even worse. I don't blame a guy that age for looking for a younger female to find someone that's interested in marriage. He doesn't have much chance with someone his own age.z

Nonsense. It has been scientifically determined that the ideal age for a female Significant Other is half the guys age plus 7 years. This is an irrefutable scientific fact. Don't even bother trying to argue with it.

Applying the rule to the situation at hand, she was younger than ideal. At 26, he should have been going out with a 20 year old. She won't be the appropriate age for him until she's 23 and he's 32.
Link Posted: 3/20/2006 8:13:00 AM EDT
i don't see the problem with it. there are plenty of 17 year olds who are more mature than the average 27 year old anyways.

Agree 100%. Not sure it is a "bad" thing, but hopefully when he is 36 or 46, he will be over his desire to bang teenagers, or his wifey is going to have a problem hanging onto him.
