Anyone hear/read/see anything about this?
Nothing in the news that I know of but someone from another forum said it happened.
Is this a dupe?

quotes from the forum author:

1st "drive-by" with a .50 BMG in the country
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It happened in Long Beach, CA this past week! Will get more details this week, but in a nutshell, 14 rounds fired from a Barrett. The victim is no longer with us and his shoulder & part of his arm is no longer with him!

That whole thing pisses me off. Yeah, it could shoot down an airplane, oh wait IT'S FLYING AT 25, 000 FUCKING FEET! If you can hit an airplane with a single projectile fired from a rifle that heavy, you are a stud. Dumb fucking liberals.

Dont know if its a dupe or not, but will say that Arnie is a friggen idiot!

For that matter, even of you DID hit it, you'd have to get extreemely lucky to hit anythuing vital enough to bring it down.

It's bullhooey.

To my knowledge only one aircraft has been aledgitaly shot down by a single shot .50 BMG.
The shot was made by a military sniper and during a war. Many other snipers were attempting to do the same but all failed but one was aledgately reported to have succeded in the attempt.

Not to mention that in order to shot down an aircraft you would have to hit a vital area that woud cause an imeadiate catastrophic failure or extensive damage While it's moving. The odds of that happening are so slim they are almost off the scale. Let alone the report would be loud enough to alert every cop within a virtual mile.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger just put his re-election head on the chopping block.

The only .50 likely to be used in a drive by would be a Desert Eagle

ETA- I love how the Anti's push it off as a military rifle when it was designed for civilians BEFORE the military adopted it

You should read their "New to the Issue" document...

I serously doubt even that.

The ammo is hard to find, the gun is big like a hand held cannon and the report is like a bomb going off (or so I've herd).

This is the first step in disarming Americans...

We need a new government

He will probably fighting for his political life, because of his 3 failed ballot propositions. The Dems out number the Republicans.

14 rounds from a Barrett.

That would mean a reload and a really slow drive-by.

The article is from January 4, 2005.
I've gotta believe that we'd have heard if there was a .50 BMG drive by. (But if there was, it would be ironic - the only .50 BMG drive by in history happens in the only state in which they're banned).

A simple yes or no will be enough... you guys are already hijacking this thread into an anti-Arnie, anti-anti-gun banning discussion.

The article is just some general info I threw in... it's not meant as a source for the question about a drive-by in the last week.

I think the industry should unite and not sell ANY firearms in Cali. Do this for a few years as the Ca government weapons start breaking down. They will quickly learn not to go after a industry they need.

I've been in and around Long Beach for at least two years now, and NOTHING of the sort has happened. More "news" made up by the anti's to push their agenda.

California Bans a Large-Caliber Gun, and the Battle Is On

"The legislation's author, Assemblyman Paul Koretz, a Democrat from West Hollywood, concedes that street criminals would most likely view the .50 BMG as too much gun for the typical robbery or drive-by shooting. Rather, the law is intended to help keep the weapon out of the hands of "terrorists, general nut cases and survivalists,"

I believe he's using a "strawman" argument there. We could use the Ted Kennedy's car argument to ban all legislators from driving too...or better yet, drinking.

Besides, they're illegal in Kalifornia. I'm mean that's why we have the law, so that things like this wouldn't happen.

For what it's worth....

I was watching the history channel a month or so back, an historian was talking about the development of the radar proximity fused anti aircraft cannon. He said that before the proximity fusing was used in the Pacific theatre, it took on average, 2600 rounds of anti aircraft cannon fire to down a single Zero. After the radar fusing was made standard, the average dropped to only 600 rounds.

The Zero was a very lightly built, fragile airplane.

These sailors got lots of practice and were very motivated.

(How can you tell when a California democrat is lying?? Her lips are moving!)

...."a terrorist armed with a .50 cal could, with just one or two shots bring down an airplane from 4 miles away".....yeah right Diane.

And I'm the tooth fairy.

If anybody had fired a .50BMG anywhere in LA or any other Cali city, it would be all over the news and the net by now. There would also be at least two homies seeking treatment for blown ear drums.
