Do you carry the things that separate you from an APE...(Rhetorical Question)

The ability to create fire (Lighter/matches)(even if you don't smoke)
Some sort of tool or knife(everyday)

No fire tools (except a 10mm pistol, I guess.)

I do carry a knife everyday, and the knowledge to utilize improvised tools.

edited 'cause "knofe" don't mean nottin.

I'm either an ape that looks like a man, or a man that looks like an ape.  It depends on who you ask.  I know what my ex wife would say.

I don't normally carry around the means to make fire when not camping, hunting or just out in the woods or desert.  I do carry a knife/multitool, gun, light, Treo phone, etc, etc.  So despite what my ex wife thinks, I'm firmly in the "man" catagory.

It's our brain that separates us from the apes - not the tools we have at hand.

I usually just carry a knife.

I guess in a serious pinch, and if I was desparate, fire could be had by pulling out my G19 in front of one of the liberals at Starbucks then waiting for their head to explode.

I always carry a zippo and my trusty Cold Steel Recon 1 half-serrated tanto.  I also carry a pack of cigarettes just in case I need to light up some laser trip wires(for those Metal Gear fans).

I use a twig to fish ants out of an anthill.  What does that make me?

Just so we're clear, a knife can be used to create a fire.

So yes, I do.

Actually, what separates us from the apes is the Ability to Make the tools, not just to carry them.

I can make fire by flint on steel (tried two sticks once--too much of a pain in the ass), and find/form steel to work.

I could carry a nice benchmade folder, but I can also take a scrap of steel and shape it against a rough surface to get a useable blade.   I also know the basics of how to make a flint (or glass) blade--I know that it is a pain in the ass to do, but if my life depended on it, you can bet I would put the time in.
