What was the funniest, best long-running sitcom ever?

Taxi?

Cheers?

Seinfeld?

All in the Family?

Barney Miller?

Wings?

ETA: Poll is up.

Without a doubt, Seinfeld. At least in my humble opinion, anyway. Is there a poll coming?

Of those, Seinfeld is the only one I watched, but it was teh funnay 2 teh maxx.

Does the Simpsons count as a sitcom?

Simpson's, if you count cartoons.

MASH

Not counting cartoons, seinfeld.

Seinfeld kept topping itself, became a weekly event that people would talk about the next day, and it had the good sense to go out on top.

Second would have to be cheers.

Listing might be different if 'south park' could be counted as a sitcom.

Gunsmoke - Longest running all American drama.

ETA: I guess that might not be a sitcom.

Married, With Children.

Simpsons is not a sitcom.

There is a little bit of Al in Every married man.

Married with Children

Al about Lying in "The Wedding Repercussions" (725)

Al to Bud: "The Bundys' proud name was built on a philosophy of lying. Well, lying, owing money and perhaps beer. Yes, lying, owing money and beer. The only thing that separates us from the Kennedys is that they have money."

Al about Being A Loser at the End of "He Thought He Could" (302)

Al to Mrs. De Groot: "So you think I'm a loser? Just because I have a stinking job that I hate, a family that doesn't respect me, a whole city that curses the day I was born? Well, that may mean loser to you, but let me tell you something. Every morning when I wake up, I know it's not going to get any better until I go back to sleep again. So I get up, have my watered down Tang and still-frozen Pop Tart, get in my car with no upholstery, no gas and six more payments to fight traffic just for the privilege of putting cheap shoes on the cloven hooves of people like you. I'll never play football like I thought I would, I'll never know the touch of a beautiful woman, and I'll never again know the joy of driving without a bag on my head. But I'm not a loser. 'Cause despite it all, me and every other guy who'll never be what he wanted to be, are still out there, being what we don't wanna be, forty hours a week, for life. And the fact that I haven't put a gun to my mouth, you pudding of a woman, makes me a winner!"

I voted Seinfeld because, A) It was awesome, and B) Its the only sitcom I actually bought the DVDs for, but Married with Children would be right there with it for me.

All in the Family, bar none.
At the time of its debut, it was FAAAAAAAAAAAAR ahead of anything else out there...and came dangerously close to cancellation due to its subject matters.

Perfect antagonist/protagonist set up, too.
Way better than Newman/Seinfeld.

May be but then I am a bit more of a centerist. I appreciate it as a commentary on war. War is bad business. MASH at least made people look at a side of it that is not all glory and John Wayne. Ironically it reinforced my decision to serve.

I used to like The Bob Newhart Show. I loved the last episode.

Then again, I haven't watch much tv in several years.

You mean "Newhart?"

That's the show where the last episode had him waking up in bed with his wife (played by Suzanne Pleshette) and he told her he had weird dream about owning a bed and breakfast in Vermont.

Yep, that was TV history. Pretty cool.

I liked M*A*S*H although Alan Alda( actor/producer) is a Firearm Anti I still liked the show.

All in the Family is Priceless,so many Politacal/Racial views,,,,interesting stuff,,,,

Seinfeld, who would of played Elaines character if Dreyfuss did'nt show up?

Simpsons is not a sitcom.

The Simpsons are very much a situational comedy, running longer than all but a small handful of shows, and broke more ground than Godzilla.
