Yeah, yeah we all know about when you "got lucky." Don't really wanna hear about a bunch of guys comparing their individual sexcapades.

Generally I'm not lucky. I'm the guy whose life they fashioned Murphy's Law from. I live a great life, but lots of annoying little stuff happens to me. HIGHLY unlikely annoying stuff.

Well, yesterday was the exception. Picked up some 55 gallon plastic drums from work for my personal range. Well, driving down I-85 the barrel goes flying out of the back of my truck and bouncing down the interstate at 70 mph.

Amazingly it hit no one, and no one hit it. I hit no one, and no one hit me. It harmlessly meandered to the side of the road. Other than a few road rashes it was fine. Put it back in my truck and drove away.

Amazing, as busy as I-85 is.

What about you? Got luck?

it's lucky that barrel didnt get torn up too bad!

as for luck: nothing major. it does seem the AF pays me my scholarship bonuses just when I need them most for some reason.

I dunno, I'm generally pretty unlucky. Like, when we sold our last house, I left my coin collection in the attic! It really sucked, too, because it was expensive stuff, worth at least a thousand or so, gold and silver!

The day I met the woman who is now my wife.

(Been pretty much downhill since!)

Buried in an old farm house, I found 12 brand new Winchester M1 Garands, with new bayonets!

Flipped a truck 4 times going 65 - all I had was 6 stitches to repair the hole I bit in my lip.

Went over a cliff at Livingston on my 4wheeler - about 130 ft on a 65 degree decline. Dragged the 4 wheeler out because it wouldn't climb the hill.

If you ever make it to South Carolina, stop by my house. I'll drive you over to the local gas station, and buy my first ever lottery ticket.

Got run over by a drunk driver in 2003. Broke every limb and cracked my jaw.

That was not so Lucky. Cool part is, the truck ran over my chest and neck. I mean full on, whump whump, ran me over. Tire marks and blood all over my shirt. Every doctor who treated me said that I should have been crushed to death, or had a broken neck at the very least. Also they said I wouldn't walk for 6-8 months. I was walking in 5 weeks with two rods in my legs.

Generally not very lucky, but I hit one number (23) on the roulette wheel once with a pretty big bet. I was really drunk, so I don't remember exactly, but I think I walked away with like $1500.

I went off the road on the left shoulder of I-10 in Loma Linda CA, over corrected, and skidded across 4 lanes into a deep drainage culvert, hitting the side of it at a 45 degree angle, flattening the engine compartment. The truck flipped and the cab was completely flat across the back window with no gap. The only gap was at the steering wheel where I got out and walked away with a scratch on my forehead. There wasn't a single salvagable part on the truck.

Fact is that I had seen a triple fatal a month before, and had only been wearing my seatbelts from that point.

I really didn't realize how bad it was until I saw the photos I took. There is no doubt I would have been dead without the seat belts. CHP almost didn't believe I was in a wreck because it took a while to find the truck.

I got my rifle back from the scrap yard that was stuck behind the drivers seat, making it double lucky.

I once managed to get 10 ribeye steaks for $15.00. They were mislabeled as stew- beef.

Several thousand dollars on the lottery
$1500 or so from slots

Does it make up for all the bad 'luck' in other areas? No, but it's a nice change of pace when it happens.

I won a couple 7-ups before.

When I was younger and MUCH dumber than I am today I ran a stoplight after bar close and almost clipped a cop. Man let me walk....no really walk home. That was WAY stupid on my part.

I just found a 20+ year old video tape of william shatner on SNL, where he did spoofs of star trek, TJ hooker, and the legendary 'Star Trek Convention' skit. Plus It also has the SNL christmas special with the alternate ending to "It's a wonderful life".

So I'm feeling pretty lucky now. Woot!

Last day in Vegas at the Hard Rock Casino at the Blackjack table. Started out at 50.00 a hand.

I hit Blackjack on my first hand, pushed the second and blackjacked 7 of the next ten.

Lost next hand, pushed after that, then got twin nines. I split, got a two and a then doubled down, hit a ten for 21, other hand I got a three, hit and got an 8 for a 20. Dealer had a 17. 100.00 inital bet. Won 300.00 on that one hand.

Said I'd play until I lost three in a row, played for another hour and a half. had three or four Blackjacks in there, and alot of pushes. Finally lost 3 in a row when she blackjacked me on a 20.

When I was done, I'd paid for our plane tickets, hotel, all food, show tickets and came home with an extra 1200.00 I didn't have when we left.

Tipped the dealer well, as she went through her stack to find me a Metallica chip to keep as a souvenir. And she was hot.

Most hellacious run I've ever had. Never had anything close since.

I won $7 bucks on a scratch off ticket today.

When I was 15 I found a $100 bill on the ground near the restroom of a mall.

Oh, yea and about a year and a half ago I rolled my 6 month old Ranger Edge 4 times and wrapped the back end around a telephone post. Smashed the bed wall of the truck down fluch with the bed. The trooper who rolled up on me found me standing out side the truck looking around, dazed. He later told me that he was expecting to find a dead person in the cab, even if I was wearing a seatbelt

My buddy and I walked away from this with no major injuries.

But I still have to go to bed tonight yet.

So I can say I've been a damn lucky bastard for over 25 years now

I can't remember anything that sticks out as having been unusually lucky.

Bad luck on the other hand ... ugh.

This post reminds me of Liberty86's "I totalled my corvette without getting hurt" thread. Anyone remember that? I couldn't find it in the archive.

I dug up a radio-dentonated road-side bomb (two 122mm howitzer rounds) with a shovel. It didn't blow up.

In hindsight, not the smartest move I've ever made.

Also had a sniper miss me by about three inches.

Which reminds me, I really must write a letter to GDLS thanking them for remembering to put an obstruction sensor on -both- ends of the ammo door in an M1 tank. Got out of that one with a small scar, but at the time the door was opening (Hydraulic thing, weighs several hundered pounds) I thought my arm was going to be snapped off.

Found a quarter on the sidewalk in front of Circus Circus in Vagas, Went in and put it in a slot along with the last quarter I had. Hit for 16X the triple bar amount. Got 960 quarters back.

I was transporting oxygen and acetylene in the back of an old Ford pick-up truck. It was a short drive and we hand't installed the protective caps. Going around a small curve the front axel snapped causing the front left wheel to enter the wheel well. The truck slid into the ditch and flipped up onto the driver's side of the truck. We quickly exited the passenger side window (pain in the ass) and ran across the field waiting for the explosion.

Nothing happened.

POS truck. Would have been nice to watch it burn.

Several years ago, the importer of Kahles military riflescopes had a blow-out sale on their remaining inventory. They are quite expensive (I actually got a bank signature loan), but they were being sold for half price. Long story short, I ordered the very last one that they had, and it didn't cost me a penny. To this day, I'm not sure if they intended to, or if they were just as incompetent in person as they sounded over the telephone. I suspect the latter. The fact that they appeared to not care either way prevents me from feeling too guilty about it.

I felt lucky a couple times in Iraq. I was standing on a sidewalk when a katyusha rocket landed right in front of me. Fortunately, I was standing where I was.

Another time, I was riding a bicycle (we weren't all issued our own humvees, ya know..) and almost ran directly over a cluster bomblet. They have a reputation for being a particularly dangerous type of UXO.

Survived being side swiped at 70mph on a motorcycle. After the dust settled, I ended up with some scrapes and a couple bruises. My knees pop kinda funny now, however.

That was lucky, but meeting my wife way back when was the best luck I ever had. I'm serious, too. After reading story after story of nasty divorces, crazy girlfriends, guys who are subjected to constant bitching etc, I'm beginning to think my bride is the exception, not the rule. She's just about perfect in every way imaginable. If finding her wasn't blind luck, I don't know what is.
