Quoted: The article is wrong about the guns. The AC-130U has the 105 howizter/ 40MM bofors and a GE 25 electric gatling. The older AC-130H which is still in use had the twin 20mm's removed several years ago while I was stationed at Hurlburt Field. Yes, I performed maintence on those bastards and actually went up on live fire training missions. Was real cool to see the targets on the sensor operators screen in the booth .

IIRC the 25mm and 40mm Bofors is being replaced with 2 30MM MK44 chainguns. More standoff range.

Negative Ghostrider, The AC-130U still has the 105 and 40mm Bofors, they switched to the GE 25 for the gatling. About the same time the 4th SOS became operational, The 16th SOS (AC-130H) had the twin 20s removed and only fly with the 40mm bofors and the 105 howitzer.
BTW, for all you you that are screaming about OPSEC, when I was stationed with the 16th at Hurlburt Field, the joke in the squadron was to watch the news to see where we were going next. We'd been deployed many a time where we had no idea where we were going until crew briefing and in one situation even the briefing was bogus and we (Back end crew and maintenance) weren't told until a couple of hours into flight were we really were headed for.
