I just noticed that I am unable to access links or attachments sent to me via email. One example is when I get a USPS or UPS shipment notification. There is a link attached to the email that is supposed to take you to the tracking section of the website, well my email is not letting me do this for any attachments. I have tried looking on Microsofts help and support guides but nothing I try fixes it. I did nothing new to the computer lately so I have no clue.Anyone have any ideas?

If you get an e-mail saying you need to update your eBay info, don't click on any of it.

How is this going to fix my email problems? I know all about email fraud and those are not the links I am wanting to click

I'm just guessing here, but try:

Control panel > Internet Options > Advanced >

Check if "Underline links" is selected.

i don't have OE close to me.  but open it go to options or tools.   find read.   change it from text only mode to HTML mode.    its under send, not your computers problem!!!

edit   i just found a system.    if the person who send the message, sent the message as text only mode.   you will have to copy and paste it each time

Did you restart after the settings?

Mine did the very same thing for no reason at all just a few weeks ago.  Tweaked the security settings but it didn't fix it.  After I reset the computer, it was working again.

My wife gets emails every day from church for their daily blog. It has always worked as an attachment you can click and take right to the site. It also has stopped working so I assumed it was my computer's problems.Even UPS or USPS tracking links no longer work, and they always have.

I'm just guessing, though it seems a couple of you are experiencing problems with OLE, or object linking and embedding.  I've gone through my system and on-line for resolution.

Are you sure nothing has been added to your system...spy-blocker, anti-virus?  Lemme know...I'll continue to fuss with this....

Every once in a while,I get problems with outlook express.sometimes it says identity log on could not be started.I know this isn't your problem, but what fixed my problem everytime was running AdAware.

It had something to do with cookies from questionable sites, but after running a spyware program,it fixed it right away. :)

Sometimes the account identity you made in OE just breaks and you cannot fix it.

So just make a new OE account identity and start fresh. It will have the highest security settings set by default, but once you reset them it should do all the things you need it too.

If it still broke then the whole windows account is toast so now you have to make a new account to sign onto. I have not seen that happen since XP was in beta, but I guess it is still possible.

Still not working. I created a new OE account from scratch and nothing. I am not sure what is going on as this problem affects my wife's email account also. No attachments will work.

Have you gone into, Tools, then Options, then Security, and unchecked "Do not allow attachments...", and uncheck "Block Images," and checked "Internet Zone [Less Secure..." ?

I did do that already and had my wife do that in her setting and still not working. Whatever has happened is affecting her email attachments and mine.

Maybe your antivirus software or firewall software is stopping them before they get to OE.

Try shutting down antivirus, firewall, and whatever anti-whatever programs you have, send yourself an email with an attachment and then check if you can receive it.

If it works, start turning programs back on one at a time as you keep resending the email w/attachment to yourself over and over. The process of elimination…

Got it fixed!!!! Don't know the reason or why it is fixed but I went to Set Program and Access defaults and went to Micrsoft setting and under email it was showing Microsoft. I switched it to Outlook Express and it is working. I don't know how it would have changed in the first place but it worked. Anyone care to try to explain why? thanks for all the replies.
