Always.
It's good luck to find pennies (or any other denomination!).

The only time I ever failed to pick up a penny was one day on my walk from the parking lot to work it was about 12 degrees out and I didn't want to take off my gloves to pick it up!
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 9:02:21 AM EDT
If there is money on the ground I pick it up it is as simple as that.. You guys that just walk past money are nuts..
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 9:03:28 AM EDT
If I make $25 an hour that's 2,500 pennies an hour or almost 42 pennies per minute. If I spent 5 seconds to bend down and pick up a penny instead of working that would cost me 3.5 cents. So I would be losing 2.5 cents for every penny I picked up.

It's not worth it.

I need the cash, man.

I only grab quarters and above. Its not uncommon for me to drop change at the jack in the box window.

Unless you're on the clock. Then you could say you made $25.01 for that hour.

unless it is beyond nasty or in a toilet...I'm picking it up.

How much do you lose per day posting on ARFCOM?

Nothing less than a quarter, or the sum of a quarter (if there's more than 1 coin on the ground)
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:01:08 AM EDT
If I see change lying on the ground, I pick it up.. I remember something a friend said to me 20yrs ago when I was living in Florida.. I stopped at a 7-11 so I could get a 6 pack, As I paid for it I dropped a penny, My friend told me "you dropped some change" I said "It's only a penny" He picked it up put it in my hand and told me " rich people don't get rich by throwing money away" I never forgot that.
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:01:37 AM EDT
It has to be silver or paper for me to pick it up.

my thoughts exactly!
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:37:25 AM EDT
Yes I do. All spare change at the end of the day goes into a canvas bank bag. At the end of a year I usually have around $1,000.00, but I blow it all in Vegas.
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:38:22 AM EDT
I prefer quarters
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:38:28 AM EDT
I've been sticking $30 in pennies up my ass for the past 11 years! That's 3,000 pennies a day; 21,000 pennies a week; 1,092,000 pennies a year! To date that's 12,012,000 pennies, 8 times the population of Nebraska. Those pennies were in my ass! You think you're better than me? Oh, you're not better than me. You handle my ass pennies everyday! You pick up my ass pennies for good luck. You throw my ass pennies in fountains and make wishes on them. You give my ass pennies to your little daughter to buy gumballs with.

You think you're better than ME? You handle my ASS PENNIES!

I glue quarters to the sidewalk
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:43:04 AM EDT
I only pick up guns I find on the street.
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 10:43:15 AM EDT
depends on where it is.

If it's in a grocery store or some place little kids might be, I just leave it on the ground so they can find it.

I've lived in Virginia since before I registered here. Idaho is just "home".

No.

When I was in high school (back in the year 8) I used to super glue coins to the floor and watch
the knuckle heads try to pick them up.

One day many years ago, my grand dad and I had just finished lunch, I excused myself to the restroom (an old out house). Just as I'm getting thu paperwork finished, and getting my pants up, my grand dad walks In and says MY TURN........about that time I look into the hole and see a dollar bill. I said hey paw paw look..... My grand dad said...WELL son of a bitch, yanks out his wallet throws it in the hole cussing up a storm the whole time, then he climbs in, gets them, and comes out. I said, what are you doing? He said, you didn't think I wuz gonna crawl down there for a fuckin dollar did ya son?
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 11:51:10 AM EDT
heck yea

its money!
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 11:51:48 AM EDT
If I happen to drop 100 pennies a year, I think I can live with that. If I was that worried about wasting money, there are a lot of places I can save it if I really wanted to. For instance, I spend about .70 per day buying Coke out of a vending machine. If I felt like drinking the sewage water that comes out of our water fountain, or the ass-brew they call coffee, that's $182 per year I could save, and a lot of pennies I wouldn't have to worry about picking up.
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 11:52:35 AM EDT
Yes.

The other day I came to a fork in the road. I took it.

Every penny I pick up is one more I have to Spend in the EE
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 11:56:13 AM EDT
I usually pick them up and see how far I can roll it.
Link Posted: 3/2/2006 12:11:05 PM EDT
For every thing on the ground that you stoop to pick, you will incur some cost in both maintenance and depreciation on your back. Over the course of your life this motion can build to levels where medical attention is necessary.

If a human were to spend his time picking up loose change, what is the minimum average amount per pickup, (assuming 1 coin per pickup) that must be met for the change to pay for all related medical care? Is it greater than 1 cent? I suppose at some point between a penny and a nickel you would break even.

As far as stooping down to pick up every random penny, hell yes I do. I find that the est places to pick up random change is in and around pools of water in shopping malls and office buildings.

Link Posted: 3/2/2006 12:13:17 PM EDT
I have a friend who refuses to pick up pennies....because he thinks bending over to pick it up opens the possibility of getting spontaneously queer-raped
