Read the 3rd paragraph! "...the Constitution does not provide a private right to bear arms." "...the Second Amendment does not protect the possession of a weapon by a private citizen." Turn in your guns. Turn them all in.

It's just Gray Davis' argument against a court contest of SB-23. Old news.

I find it extremly difficult to take this thread seriously without any kind of background information. Who is Gary Davis? What is the nature of the case? What court is this from and who is the judge?

Here is more old news. The CT State Constitution Article 1, Section 15 states, "Every man has the right to keep and bear arms in defense of himself and the state." This sounds like a clearly defined basic right but....... ......on June 30, 1994 Judge Draginis at Litchfield Superior Court ruled that this right was not absolute, and could be "reasonably regulated under the state's police power."

Unfortunately, the State of CA does not have anything that gaurantees gun ownership in its constitution. Somehow that was left out when it was drafted.

But the judge's Superior court ruling still stands eight years later. As a matter of fact, just this year we were once again "reasonably regulated under the state's police power."

At the public hearing this year, many arguments were made based on the belief that Article 1, Section 15 would be violated should a modified, more extensive ban be enacted.

Because of the ruling, all arguments based on Article 1, Section 15 could not be considered valid by the public safety comittee.
