Hopefully I won't get a spankin for posting this here. But, here it goes.

I notice when I'm looking thru the picture threads that the file sizes are way bigger than they need to be.  It's killing my puny DSL.  hereutility from microsoft that compresses the file size and resizes the pictures without losing image quality.  Thought you guys/girls might want to use it.Here
1. Download and install the utility.  After you install it you.....

2. Go to where your pictures are...
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f381/mbumgarnerii/mypicMedium.jpg

3. Right click on the picture that you want to resize and click resize pictures.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f381/mbumgarnerii/resizeMedium.jpg

4. Then select the file size that you desire and click ok.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f381/mbumgarnerii/1024Medium.jpg

5. As you will see, It automatically creates a high quality picture with a much smaller file size. The original picture was 1.78mb (1,875,890 bytes) compared to the new one that is 107 KB (109,874 bytes)

When you put your mouse cursor over Utility, you should be able to see the link displayed at the bottom of your browser window.

That is cool. I just use Photobucket.com and it resizes the pics automatically, if you want to post them on the site.

Another real good one is IrfanView.  Free, and does everything you could want with a picture, from resizing, making black and white, to slide shows.  he

If you have better one, let me know.  I'm all for it.  I just thought I would try to share this little tool cause it's simple.  Not everyone is computer savvy you know.

I would be more than happy to talk to you about photo software via IM, but the AR section isn't the place for it.   I look forward to your pictures in the AR15 pic thread.

uhhhh.... I don't really like care about photography and photoshopping or ak47's and stuff.  I just like AR-15's.  I just wanted to help people who like AR-15's and who aren't photographers.  Most people aren't trying to win a contest when posting their pics.  They just want to show of their rifles.

I think probably 3 people would read it in the photography and photoshopping section.  Besides, I don't think I would be enlightening anyone over there anyway.

I'll have to compare it to photoshop to see how the quality and size of the resultant image is.

Ditto. Been using it for years. It's fast and easy for resizing, cropping, and its compression seems to work as good or better than the high end image processors. Probably the best freeware tool on available.

You will see on some images that the quality of the image is much better when down-sized using Photoshop as their algorithms are much better.

Here's another one. This is free and also allows you to batch (do as many as you want at one time) pictures from a directory. I use PS & AcdSee too, but this is nice 'cause of the batching ability.

Yeah, nice pic. That's a freakin bad ass lookin rifle.  I'm jealous man.  Give me specs.

But, what I mean by compression is file size.

See, here's your original picture (Filesize 181 kb)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v370/M4-TUNA/DSC00536.jpg

Here is your picture compressed with that program (filesize 52.6 kb)  The filesize of this picture is over 3 times smaller but same size picture and same quality.  I just like to use it so it doesn't take so long for people to download.
