Simple poll. Yes or no, does the Democratic party support all three of these things?

Abortion
Gays
Gun control

How do you see it?

As far as gays go......no or not in 06 and 08 they won't. Even Hillary is put as much distance as she can from gay rights. Abortion they will use as a election issue under the women right to chose banner.

Yup.

ETA: The only deal breaker for me in a candidate (out of those issues) would be gun control.

The games they play with issues important to homosexuals are dreadfully cynical. The party and its candidates seem for the most part to have no real thoughts or beliefs on those issues. Therefore, they constantly "triangulate:" what position (more accurately "pronouncement") will garner more votes from gays who might otherwise have voted (R) or stayed home than it will lose from others?

An example from Monday's NYT: The two candidates have jostled each other over their records on gay marriage. Last month, Mr. Cuomo told a gay Democratic club that he supported legalizing same-sex marriage, a shift from his 2002 campaign for governor, when he supported same-sex civil unions only. "I support marriage, gay marriage," he said yesterday. "I worked for civil unions four years ago in the campaign, because that was the priority at that time, achieving civil unions."
He added, "There is no doubt that conceptually, equality of marriage was always the goal, and now I believe that it's the achievable goal."
Mr. Green supports gay marriage, but his position has also shifted. In 1998, when he sought the Democratic nomination for United States senator, he opposed gay marriage, but by 2001, when he was the Democratic nominee for mayor, he supported it.

The Republicans can at least be said to have a political philosophy which they often ignore or betray; the Democrats have no discernable principles other than election, taxation, and income redistribution.

Since the Dems gave in to the radical leftwing back in the Sixties, they are indeed 'Supporters of Gun Control, Gays, and Abortion'.

They could clean house if they ran as Pre-60's Democrats, but that isn't going to happen.

if they ran as pre-60's Dems, wouldn't they be calling for Jim Crow and segregation?

The executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda gay rights group has described Sen. Hillary Clinton as "a complete disappointment," raising the prospect that some in the LGBT community may stop supporting her political career due to her opposition to same-sex marriage.

In a memo Alan Van Capelle sent to his board members, the gay leader refused to "lend my name and sell tickets" to any fund-raiser for Clinton's Senate re-election campaign. Van Capelle said supporting such fund-raisers for Clinton would "actually hurt" the LGBT community. The memo was published on the Politicker Web site of The New York Observer.

"It will send a message to other elected officials that you can be working against us during this critical time and not suffer a negative pushback from the gay community," Van Capelle said. "We have become a community that throws money at politicians, and we demand nothing in return. And that's what we get: nothing. It's the wrong message to send," he said.

Joe Tarver, spokesman for the Empire State Pride Agenda, told the PlanetOut Network the memo "was a confidential communication between the executive director and the board."

He added that "We're getting an enormous amount of positive responses and no negative responses."

Clinton opposes same-sex marriage but supports civil unions between members of the same sex. During her husband's administration, she supported the Defense of Marriage Act, a law preventing the federal recognition of same-sex marriage.

Not necessarily, but point taken.

JFK or Truman would never be accepted in todays Democratic party, but those kinds of candidates could get some votes today.

What is more important to you when casting a vote Stoner ? A politician that supports gay rights,or one that supports gun rights.

For instance,if John Kerry promised to repeal the '86 MG "ban",I would vote for him.Though once he got into office, he would say "Just kidding about lifting that ban folks, these things happen".I really don't care about anything else besides gun laws and the 2nd..

Democrats are people who believe that government should have a larger role in solving societal problems. Democrats are well meaning people who are often wrong on their approach. Democrats are decent people.

Liberals are conceited narcissists who insist that they are the saviors of humanity (one reason why they don't like Jesus....They don't want any competition in the Messiah department) who are determined to remake American society in THEIR image, whether anyone likes it or not. They seek the power of government to enforce their theocracy of political correctness and Constitutional revisionism upon the rest of society at the point of a bayonet if necessary.

Because Democrats in general look to government for solutions to problems, this is the most natural party for the liberals to take residence in, to the point that they are close to completely taking over the Democratic party. They have increasingly pushed sane democrats to the curb while making the democratic party a more shrill and senseless party by the day. Eventually they will be handed an electoral defeat large enough to cause a reformation in the democratic party where the saner members of the party will re-assert their authority and hopefully bring some common sense back to the democratic party.

Life under the control of liberals can be seen in the democratic party. They have redefined a party that originally stood for Jeffersoninan principles and have turned it into the screeching mess we see today. Look upon the current democratic party and fear, for that is exactly what they will do to the ENTIRE nation if they get the chance.

You should.

The diseased thinking that would remove all arms from the citizenry of the United States is the same diseased thinking that produces income redistribution, the loss of private property rights, and many other ills that time does not allow me to list. The attempt to define the 2nd ammendment as not meaning "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" while maintaining that somewhere in "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." there is a "right" for a woman to kill her unborn child ought to be ample enough demonstration that their thinking on EVERY matter of public policy is diseased and must be resisted.

After all, you can't really own many guns when they take your house to give it to a developer and tax your income to the point where you are in functional poverty.

Usually the strongest conservationists are the folks like Ducks Unlimited. The "environmental" groups of the left are usually less about protecting the environment than they are about trying to end the American way of life through "environmental" regulation. Nutcases like the human extinction movement, etc. They aren't trying to protect the environment. They are trying to assume an air of moral superiority without actually being morally superior, which they intend to exploit in the attempt to seperate you from your freedom to own property.

The state must own all property, comerade!

Womans right to make her own decisions-Democrat

Republicans generally have no desire to stop a woman from deciding what she will do with her life. Merely limiting her ability to decide to terminate someone else's life.

I don't align myself with any political party, therefore I don't give a fuck about any of the current politicians.

The current politicians are the ones making the policies that we must deal with. Defending freedom isn't about personalities, it is about principles and policies, and that requires constant attention.

The thing is, ardent support for the RKBA is a near-100% predictor of correct thinking on the other issues you mention. It is less than 100% (but more than 50%) on abortion, but think about how rare it is to find someone - politican or not - who is a 2A advocate and is on the left or statist side of the other major questions of the day.

If you don't know anything else about a candidate, his position on the 2d usually gives you enough information to cast your ballot.

The demonrats presently burned me against their party when in ’87 a then Ohio governor Dick Celeste cancelled the 100% tuition college reimbursement program for the Ohio National Guard.

F' em. Forever. I'm doing my best to teach my kids and anyone who will listen that the demonrats are anti-American.

Sadly, the Republican's are proving to be just as anti-American with their amnesties and open border policies and their lapses with the 2nd amendment.

You're asking the wrong queer, Stoner's a Log Cabin Republican

AND, UNFORTUNATELY in Ohio the choice is TYPICALLY between an anti-gun Anti-queers Republican and an ANTI-Gun PRO (or at least not anti) Queer Democrat, in THAT case, usually I'll vote for the Democrat, at least s/he's "toting the party line".

Zell Miller was a good democrat, hell if they all voted like him I'd switch parties.

Abortion: It's wrong, but not a big legislative issue IMHO
Gun control: It's unconstitutional, PERIOD
Gay rights: No special rights, and the PC bullshit's got to go.
Border CONTROL
Welfare ELIMINATION, work or starve it really is that simple.

Find me a Dem or Republican who shares my beliefs and I'll support him/her. I just dont see a democrat supporting those principles.
( my union does not usually support dems and has no afl-cio affiliation)

In short, for now YES they are the party of gay rights, gun control, and killing babies.

THis is the failing of the fucking two party system and why now only 50% of voters even go to the polls. Dems "pander" to gays and what not but they dont really deliver. Why should they? Who else are gays going to vote for? the Pat Robertson party? So when certain "narrow interest" voters dont get what they want they dont have another viable third party to go to so they just throw up their hands and stay home. This is also a problem with Repubs as well. Almost all the Repubs on Long Island are gun grabbers or will not stand up for protecting those rights. So when i step into the election booth who can i vote for? the libertarians? paleese Not that i dont agree with them but the way the system is set up third parties have no chance. We need a parlimentary system or a better distribution of voting blocks. This whole "all or none" system really blows.
Link Posted: 2/28/2006 9:08:35 AM EDT
Some individual Democrats are actually very conservative, but the party as a whole does support those things. However to pander to the centrists they will pretend to be occupying a reasonable "middle ground" on those issues (for example John Kerry "supports the Second amendment" but you don't need an "assault weapon").
