While in training at UCLA, one of the epilepsy fellows was confronted in the parking lot with a gunman intent on robbing him.

He had nothing to defend himself with (except maybe a reflex hammer), so he did the only thing he could remember.

He faked a generalized  tonic clonic seizure (grand mal), essentially, fell down, screamed, jerked his arms and legs repetitively and foamed at the mouth for a minute.

His assailant ran away, was later arrested, and according the police, rather upset with witnessing a seizure.

FAKING A SEIZURE MAY CAUSE LIGAMENTOUS INJURY TO THE NECK, A HEADACHE, AND COULD MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE DOOFUS.

Now that is funny!  But seriously if the SoB approaches, a ground fighting stance is pretty a pretty good defense.  Not that I would choose to start unarmed combat from the ground but you can keep someone at distance with kicks.  It is very effective, unless the BG has a gun then you've only succeeded in preventing the inevitable fall after you get your ass shot.
