I took care of an AIDS patient who went a little crazy and swallowed a mercury thermometer. When he put it in his mouth it broke in half. The GI specialist took the top half out from the stomach with an endoscope and the bottom half with most of the mercury was followed by X-ray until he pooped it out.

There is zero chance of the primer going off.

The amount of lead either from the exposed hollow-point or from the lead styphnate leaking out is next to zero as well. Lead is virtually insoluble in non-oxidizing acids like hydrochloric acid. Old white paint chips are made from lead carbonate which does dissolve appreciably in warmed dilute hydrochloric acid. Totally different scenario.

I still think he's jerking your chain though.

Unfortunately, I don't think he was jerking me. some of the rounds from my box actually were missing. My room mate actually attempted to give me money to cover the loss of the bullets. As far as mercury, I know that for a brief period of time, it was used as a laxative, at least thats what my inorganic professor told me.

ETA: I think I need to buy another safe just for ammo storage.

My dog has never eaten ammo....but she did destroy the wooden back steps to the house by eating them....the only adverse (to herself) thing she's done was eat half a box of M&M's from my daughter's fundraiser last year.....she was sick as a...well, dog. and the vet bills from the x-rays and habing the twisted. bloated stomach...yikes...thankfully she didn't need surgury.
