I'd like to try this out tomorrow morning.

That's it, start a thread and then never come back to respond!

Had to get the facts straight from the cook....

anywhere from 325-370 (it'll be crispier at 370 like it was this am). 325- i'm
guessing about 15-20/370-10-15. i eyeball it.

Was it really that hard to guestimate?

And Dude, I think I'm going to have a massive heart attack just looking at the pic over the internet. I guess the purpose of the cupcake tin is to keep the grease from escaping.

I made some this morning.  My overall impression was good, but its more difficult to get the bacon to be crispy which is the way I like it.

I'll just stick to frying up some bacon in pan and then some eggs in the bacon grease.

Best benefit of using cupcake pans,  easier cleanup and no vigilance required.

About 3 years ago, I started a thread about 'Toad-in-the-Holes' here on ARFCOM, and asked if anyone had heard of them.

Very few had, and the ones who had heard of such creations used other names for them.

But a real American 'toad in the hole' is made with a slice of bread, with a center cut out, and an egg cooked inside that center.

From Wikipedia:

'In some countries, including Australia and Canada, and in the U.S. region of New England, Toad in the Hole is the name of a dish that involves cutting a hole in a slice of bread, cracking an egg into it, and then frying it.'

In the South, we mostly use the same term.

Eric The(Southern)Hun

Downeast we call that dish "Egg in a Nest".

So, was surfing ARFCOM the other day and the GF asked me if I wanted a "toad n' the hole". After a WTF pause I asked her what the hell was she talking about and she said she was a little hungry and was going to make some of these to eat. She said that's what they call'em down in Georgia and she has always known them by that name. I call em eggs and bacon.

Anyway, simple but delicious. Just line the cupcake thing with bacon and fill it with an egg, then bake. Heartattack cupcakes!

Taffy, if they're reacting this way to UK style toad in the hole, let's not get them started on "spotted dick" or "bubble and squeak".

Don't forget 'Faggots'...
