I don't own a Glock but have shot a 40 and 9 (don't ask which model because I have no idea). I currently have a Colt 1911 (my favorite) and a Beretta 92 and love them. My next hangun will propably be a SIG. What makes Glocks special? I did not care for how it felt but I'd say it shot well. Don't take this as a bashing because I know nothing about them, just want to know what the general consencious was.

Simplicity, reliability, longevity
They are great, right out of the box. Come to the dark side. |
Because they go bang every single time. Take your most reliable gun and multiply its reliability by 263 and then you will have a Glock.
Because they have less parts, half the weight and twice the mag capacity, they are cheap and they will shoot forever. They are like the AK's of pistols. There are confirmed tests of a glock shooting in excess of 750,000 rds and never being cleaned once.
They are accurate and simple to operate, which has caused them to become the most commonly used handgun by law enforcement in the United States. These factors, in addition to their relativly low cost, have made them widely popular among regular users as well.
On the other side of the fence, some people hate the ergonomics, don't like plastic, and dislike the lack of external safety devices. And a few out of the millions in production have suffered catastrophic failures, often due to using reloads or lead bullets, both of which are not supposed to be used in Glocks. The same people that constantly tell everyone how dangerous Glocks are fail to mention the thousands of other manufacturer's guns that explode. The walls of the Small Arms Repair Shop at MCLB Albany used to be lined with M-1911s, M-16s, SAWs, M-60s, and M-249s that had exploded for various reasons. |
Because they are made of plastic and can pass through metal detectors un-detected.
ETA: Those aren't pics of the gun you see, it's the picture of the box they came in. |
damn, 7 replies and no glock haters or kaboom pictures yet?
this place is slipping................ |
I showed self restraint. |
Glocks are stupid simple and ready to rock out of the box.
Oh, and uh, "Ka BOOM!" |
Elementary school is not out until 2:30 or so. |
With the G19 in particular, the magazine capacity v. size v. weight is very impressive. Not too many other handguns out there that can meet or beat those specs for a sidearm.
feeling badly about the last time or something? |
that explains ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I consider the G19 and G34 to be two of the greatest handguns ever made. The only handgun that performs better is a semi-custom/custom 1911 from a relatively small list of shops/gunsmiths. Outside of this small list, I would buy another Glock.
Um, your rear sight is on backwards..... Yea I know, some do that on purpose. Glock, because all your thread are belong to us....... |
And here we have a perfect example of why you don't post your photo work on the internet unless you want it ripped off, modified so that it means exactly the opposite of what it originally meant, and reposted. |

I owned 9 different glocks! I think I gave glock a fair chance.
They are the most common modern pistol in the world today. You're gonna see 'em once in a while.
PS My buddy was in Germany last week; said he saw a soldier (not a cop!) carrying a Glock. I thought the Bundeswehr carried HK's. Damn Austrians are taking over everything. PPS. He said the German cops (in Munich) were evenly split between HK P7's and SIGs. |
w00t! you're the first one to notice that! |
Once you get used to the trigger, they're simply a superior design. I'm not a fan of the whole ballistic fingerprinting thing, though.
Very reliable and they are the EASIEST pistol to detail strip.
Because no two KaBooms are exactly alike, yet all are interesting. That's why.
Because My Glock is more reliable than you *insert any other brand name here*.
Period. You may find stories of other guns going 2 or 3 or even 4,000 rounds without being cleaned. Go to The glock forum and look for the thread "glock21 test" or something like that. You'll NEVER find another gun put through what that one was put through. No other brand on the planet would stand up to it. My carry/IPSC/IDPA/USPSA gun is a Glock 22, less than a year old, and has over 30k rounds through it with only 3 light cleanings (brushed bore) and no detailed cleanings. Not one single hiccup ever. |
Well said. I have NEVER EVER had a failure of any kind with any of my Glocks after several thousand rounds. |
Glock is a work horse of a gun. If you want something that will go bang eveytime and be reasonably accurate go Glock.
It is designed to be man handled. Other pistols can be termed as show guns. You clean them often. Polish things to make it work just right. The slightest bump will get things all out of wack. Speaking figureativly of course. If you want something that you can drop in the mud and still fire Glock is your beast. |
Thanks for the information. Their cost is a sway factor for me.

So you just opened an account here last week, eh? |

Maybe it's DonR again! |

This time a year ago, I was a full-fledged Glock hater. I still thing they are ugly. But constantly reading about how reliable and accurate they are, made me finally buy one for myself to see. So I bought a Glock 26 and now I love the damned thing.
Now that's harsh. Just making a funny. Simmer. |
Which model is that Mark?? (not a glock guy, so yes, I'm serious) |
It's a G24. (.40 caliber long slide) They come either ported or non ported. |
I use to be a Glock hater too, but then I really gave them a try 10 years later at the range and ended up buying a G22, then a G36 and I never carry my P229 unless i am feeling trendy.
I've owned 3 Glocks and every one of them have worked flawlessly. Hell my Kimber had a FTF on it's first round
Me too. Now I have a 26 and a 19. Love 'em both. |
I don't. |
JUSTINHIP, don't let the kaboom pics spook you. I'd wager they are all related to ammo (speaking of, always use jacketed ammo in a glock).
