Remember when every yahoo under the sun had a bra on their car?

That's weird how stupid trends come and go, you never see those at all any more. In fact I always thought they were dumb as hell. They were supposed to protect your paint, but actually they usually ended up fucking it up instead.

I guess todays side steps on trucks were yesterdays bras. One day, all people with side steps will finally yank them off and through them away.

They weren't for protecing your paint, they were for defeating police radar.  They worked like strap-on stealth technology.

Nothing like a big black non-reflective surface for soaking up radar.

I had one for my 88 Toyota Van.

Worked well since it had a totally flat front that just begged to get smashed by every piece of debris on the road.

My 05 Xterra has a completely plastic nose so it soaks up the damage pretty well without showing it much (wish I'd gotten the bug deflector installed sooner before I chipped up the leading edge of my hood )

Remember the destroyed clearcoat from the sand that got underneath them?

They were awesome when you smashed the front up and you wanted to hide body damage!

You were supposed to take them off every now and then and clean up underneath. I wish I had got one for my Saturns. Cleaning off all that road tar and bug guts is not my idea of fun....

I beat the shit out of some guy with a bra on his Car a few months ago.  Really!  I had his blood drops on my driveway even.  He's never bothered me or my family since.

The point is that there are still ass wipes with bras in the world!

i see a guy around town who drives a brand new PORSCHE with a full frontal bra on it.  He's an older guy and I've seen it probably 50 times (to/from work) and I just want to find out where he parks and pull his bra up and see just how bad it looks under there.

The only reason to use one of these things now a days is to cover up front end damage that you don't want to pay for to fix.

Don't forget those "static strips" that hung from the rear bumpers that touched the road that supposedly helped the radio reception...

remember that piece of cool technology?

Dirt traps.
The wifes van had one to hide all the rock dings but it left a abrasion shadow like a tan line. I took it off to wax the car after only a month. It's still visible and that was over 3 years ago.

+1

Had a dingbat bus driver (full of special ed type kids) back into my Cheby Beretta - while I was in it, frantically blowing the horn and trying to get it in reverse to clear her...  I had it repaired by an inept so-called bump shop that advertised on the Christian radio station I listen to and it looked like hell... I put a bra on it and it was fine.

Man you should have seen those kids when I called the cops though... they were jumping around and calling her some not-very-nice things!

I guess I'm just being fashionable when I step on my step bar while getting into my truck?  I like it there, I use it, and I won't be throwing it away anytime soon.

Having said that, car bras are stupid.

Radar guns are based on reading the time it takes for the waves to return after being reflected off your car. Any dark, non reflective object will reflect less than a nice shiny metallic painted bumper.
