Ohio State Trooper James Cress shot and killed drunken driving suspect Errol Baker II on Sunday. The entire incident was caught on tape by Trooper Cress's dashboard-mounted camera. For 82 seconds, Cress battled with Baker after pulling a gun he seemed hellbent on using. The trooper punched Baker several times, once causing him to drop the .45-caliber handgun. Baker retrieved the gun and fired, narrowly missing Cress. The trooper then grabbed his own gun, firing a fatal shot into Baker's head.

The video released today seemed to dispel the Baker family belief that trooper Cress was unprovoked. Upon further search two bags of cocaine were found in Errol Baker's pocket. Baker had been previously indicted on one count of engaging in corrupt activity, 12 counts of trafficking in cocaine, one count of illegal manufacture of drugs, one count of discharging a firearm close to a home and two counts of possessing weapons as a felon.

So the fuck what.  The bad guy fought and died. I am glad the LEO won and went home to his family.  Why didnt the LEO call for backup?  Usually in my town the LEOs are alone but when they pull people over other LEOs converge, especially at night.

My pooter must really be F'd up because it looked to me like the cop was having some at gun-point, non-consensual sex with that perp.  Is that what I saw?

Almost at the end of the video clip the Trooper unholsters his weapon and fires it point blank into the suspect's head and as if by magic the struggle ends.

Right after thr troop shoots him, you see him kick the weapon away!  Lost the sound when the struggle got heated because of the wireless mic.

Look at 1:40, it appears like the officer is unholstering his weapon.

1:44  It appears like he puts something behind the perp's head.

1:45 Perp's body goes limp, LEO takes something dark colored from the perp's hand and tosses it away.

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is releasing in-car video of the officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning from a traffic stop on State Route 753, south of U.S. 35 in Fayette County.

Errol T. Baker II, 26, of 15 Vine Street in Jeffersonville was armed with a .45 caliber handgun and fired a shot at a trooper before being shot in the left side of his head. Baker died as a result of injuries received. Patrol investigators later discovered two bags of cocaine in his pocket and that Baker had an extensive criminal history including drug and weapon charges and violent behavior.

At approximately 1:47 a.m. Sunday, Tpr. James Cress, from the Wilmington Patrol Post, stopped Baker’s vehicle for driving left of center and suspected operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) on State Route 753, south of U.S. 35.

A timeline of events visible on the in-car video of incident include:

1:48:10 Baker refuses to be patted down for weapons and assaults Tpr. Cress.
1:48:12 Struggle ensues and Baker pulls .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
1:48:22 Baker drops the firearm but recovers it as he and Tpr. Cress struggle and fall to the ground.
1:48:26 – 27 Baker fires round from .45 caliber handgun toward Tpr. Cress.
1:48:27 – 1:49:25 Baker maintains gun in hand. Tpr. Cress attempts to remove weapon from Baker’s hand.
1:49:25 Baker’s weapon visible, facing Tpr. Cress’s in-car video camera.
1:49:34 Tpr. Cress is unable to gain control of Baker’s weapon and as he is turning himself and his weapon toward Tpr. Cress, Baker is shot in the left side of his head by Tpr. Cress.
1:49:38 With Baker’s weapon still in his hand, Tpr. Cress secures Baker’s weapon from him.
1:57:40 After securing passenger from Baker’s vehicle, Tpr. Cress begins first aid on Baker.

In most MVR tapes you wont hear the actual gunshots being fired.  If you hear anything, its typical the rounds impacting around/on the officer.

Also, the fact the guy is a trooper greatly plyas into why you don't see a back-up unit there.  In a lot of cases troopers work alone unless a local stops by to help out.

I'm glad Trooper Cress had his MVR on.  Could you imagine Errol Bakers ma ma ranting about her poor innocent son being shot point blank along the road for doing nothing?

Just guessing here, but most guys, myself included, put the MVR mic on the front of the gun belt.  It looks like the mic may have been sandwiched between Tpr. Cress and Bakers soon to be lifeless body effectively muting it.

Outstanding Trooper!

One defective carbon based life form deactivated.

Call to clean up crew.

And btw Cav Vet... you can clearly see the perps gun get tossed as soon as he gets a new window installed in his melon.

Another +1 for the troopers ground fighting skills.
