Don't use rubbing alcohol. It has stuff like oils mixed in with it. That's why they call it rubbing alcohol.
It leaves residue behind. Wipe your glasses with it and take a look.

Well I just ran the laptop under the sink for a few minutes.  Its okay though because I used hot water and Dawn.

By the way...people bring you laptops with residue on them to clean so much that you have developed a procedure for it?!

I guess it's isopropyl alcohol and not rubbing, I always thought they were the same thing
www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4A2P54

If a stain remains on the LCD, moisten the dry, lint-free, soft cloth with water or a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water that does not contain impurities.
Attention:
Never spray or pour any liquid directly on the keyboard or LCD panel!

I bought a product at Best Buy called Monster Screen Cleen.  It comes with a soft absorbant cloth and a spray bottle.  It works great and leaves no scratches.

I use iKlear with very soft cleaning cloths on the LCDs at work...stuff is very effective, works nicely. Great on CRTs and other computer accessories too.

Mild soap & water using steel wool.
You will never see that scratch again.

Several healthy wipes with your shirt sleeve, or when wearing a t-shirt the front (stomach) end works good if pulled up over the keyboard and used in the same manner as your shirt sleeve.  If naked, use your free hand to pick your shirt off the floor and wipe in the above manner.

in the interest of not getting my screen dusty any more.  I've decided to only use the laptop in the bathtub.

a quick splash of suds and an ever so gentle dunking takes care of all the dust.

How do I keep it from shorting out you ask?

I've dripped wax over the keys and all openings to seal the laptop.

I had wax handy because I was naked and avoiding cold sores if you know what I mean
