I will be working graveyard as security for a low-key motel on the Las Vegas Strip.

I will take with me three things:

1) Surefire Centurian C3 light

2) Benchmade AFCK 806D2 folder knife.

3) Danner boots

I really wish I could take a gun with me.

Why can't you take a gun with you? From what I understand, NV is shall issue?

Some states make it illegal for private security to carry a firearm on any post other than an armed post!(i.e. if the client is paying for armed you cannot carry.)

What's so funny? It's a legitimate job and I need the money.

Better than slinging burgers, and greeting at Walmart.

This being Vegas, that is the least of my worries.

Besides, I don't want a bunch of Arfcommers harrassing me on the job.

nothing wrong making a few extra bucks as a security guard.

good luck to you. I took some of those security jobs. The money wasn't bad, but they aren't worth the pay. Stick to it till you can find something better though. Aint worth dying or getting beat up for that.

Get yourself a nice big can of Sabre Red OC to keep in a jacket pocket.   Not to worry if you get fired for using it, it may save your ass.

Dont let the guys get to ya, it's an honest job and you're paying your own way instead of sucking the .gov teet on everybody else's dime.

Security and law enforcement are some very exciting jobs also can be very dangerous. I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot about criminals just working security in a craphole mall. I also seen some absoutly funny shit people do to get away with crime(stealing merchandice). IMO.....Take the job and if you dont like it just quit and find something different.

Just watch the guests cars in the parking lot.  Nothing worse than staying at a hotel and having your car broken into.  Happened to my dad and he didn't get any compensation from the hotel.  Ended up hounding the president of Choice Hotels Inc at his private residence.

I know this one guy who worked as a night guard at an abandoned factory.  He wore a bulletproof vest, sidearm, back up ankle gun, maglite, pepper spray.  I guess its the closest he could ever get to becoming swat.

LMFAO, nothing funnier then seeing a security guard take his job too seriously. Vest, multi guns, "tactical" black gloves, combat boots... Takes his job 110% and thinks he is a badass.

I'd say take the job, its easy extra money. Just dont start thinking your SWAT or a SEAL now.

I saw one of those guys at the mall in Billings of all places a few weekends ago.    The first time I saw him I wanted to yell out "MALL NINJA!!!!!!"

I couldn't help but laugh; He even had on a "combat vest" like the ones you can get out of Cheaper Than Dirt.    Damn it was funny.

Seriously; I think you should take the job.

Go for it! Just find out from the management just what exactly is expected, etc. Do that, and no more.
As it's been said, you're there to observe and report, not get f'd up for a $10/hour job.

I did the 'mall ninja' thing for a p/t job, while I was waiting for my supposed-to-be full-time job to kick
in. I would then quit the mall job once the industrial security job kicked in full-time. (That never
happened, but that's another story.....)

I'd rate the mall security job as one of the jobs that I had the most fun doing that I can remember.
It was never the same day to day, and as ak4784 stated, you run into some hilarious shit from the
wannabe shoplifters who think they're so smooth.

Since you're going to be working in a hotel (hopefully one of the higher-end ones who want to keep
a decent rep), they'll back their security folks. Nothing worse than working for security for a client
who then doesn't want to back their people when shit goes wrong.

Actually, I did a trial run last night under this old security guy.

Basically, since I am graveyard, I will be ALL ALONE ALL NIGHT. That's right - no backup, no support. Only the night front desk person as the only other employee.

I will drive the shuttle van every once in a while as needed to the airport and to Mandalay Bay. Tip money potential.

Small, but tidy and clean operation, this motel. Rates are 99.00/night on weeknights, and 119.00/night on weekends.

I already have an interesting story from my dry run. A couple came in real late - guy is old fat bald dude, girl is very hot 20-yo blonde chick with long straight hair. I was thinking, hmmmmm

Oh, and the old security guard told me, as long as the pimps and the prostitutes don't bother the other guests, I can leave them alone.

I did the hotel gig a few times, not a bad job at all. As long as you don't take your job too serious you should be just fine. You are not there to kick ass and take names, mostly a trained observer/witness. The hotel just wants someone to handle the little stuff and know when to call the PD when needed.Your main job is to lessen liability for the hotel, by trying to handle violent scenarios alone you actually increase it. Drunk naked women and horny staff members with room keys are frequent on overnights as well. Hey, what you do on your breaks is your business right?

Personally. I'd never take on a private security gig...armed or otherwise.
I don't see the point in being paid comparitively little to protect someone elses private property....
'Like I'm gonna risk my well being for your profit.... No thanks.
