Lets keep it civil.
This is a question about why we call certain races by certain names, non-pc of course.

White's are called white
black people are called black
Why arnt mexicans called brown's? Ive seen bumper stickers saing brown pride.
Arabs are called arabs, not olive's
Asians are Asian, not well whatever color they are.
Why do whites and blacks get called by the color of their skin and not anything else. Why do most other ethnicities get called by their ethnic background and not their color.

I think it's appropriate to call people (when race is a rational identifier) whatever they want to be called. My brother used to get all wound up about that stuff: "Why the hell should I call them [fill in the blank]? First it was 'Colored,' then 'Negro,' then 'Black,' then 'Afro-American,' then. . . [yadda yadda yadda]" My response was "What's it cost you to show a little respect?"

If it's a big enough deal to the referents to mention it, it's a bigger deal to them than it could ever be to people who aren't members of the group. Whatever lets my neighbor know I have a decent respect for him is OK by me.

I mostly try to avoid using any of those terms, because even when necessary it's still not the same to everyone. For example, I say black but I've had people correct me and say person of color.

People are people, and no label is going to please everyone.

(Some of our more liberal citizens are ashamed to be American).

For the record, I am Endoeuropean Prussian American.

Although my roomate is a JIB (Jewish Indian Black) You guys can feel free to call him a JIB too. Since he is the only one we know of, he has dubbed it not a racial slur.

The caucasions are from the area formerly known as Persia (now Iran). So Iranians are nice aryans (whites/caucasians), possibly the first in the world.

Your brother is trying to ask why it is that what a group PREFERRED then is now an insult or not sufficiently descriptive. It isn't whether he shows respect or disrespect, but why the perception of that changes.

That gets tricky. /////////you can't just substitute the "African American" pc term for "blacks". Lots of black are of non-African ancestry. Try calling a Jamaican kid and African American and you will get an earful

Seriously, I don't understand the whole color thing....I don't get the whole....Asian American....African American.....Mexican American, etc, etc, etc crap. Either you're American or you're visiting. If you're visiting please leave you're 30 day visa at the gate as you leave. Why do people feel the need to throw that at you...and be all this PC crap...Asian American, African American....why not White American? I know why, cause we're Americans.....not really sure why everyone else can't be "Americans" as well. Sorry, this stuff pisses me off and I tend to wanna vent.

Well I had a girl correct me for saying african american and that she perfered 'black' or 'black american' and not long after I took her advise I was corrected into saying 'african american'

Im pretty damn confused.
