If you have Windows XP and want a few toys to make your machine more Vista-esque, try these:

1. Yahoo Widgets. These add some transparent items to your desktop, such as weather, to do lists from MS Outlook, news readers, RSS feeds, system utilities such as CPU and memory monitors, etc.

2. MSN Toolbar. Youcan pull all the crappy options off during install, and it will leave you with 2 important features - desktop search ala Windows Vista, and tabbed browsing for IE.

toolbar.msn.com
widgets.yahoo.com

I'll post some screenshots in a bit

This is Desktop Search, which is pretty cool. You can natively view things like PDF's, etc in it. It's part of the MSN Toolbar download

Thanks Pete,
I was waiting for the newer version of IE to come out but I'll fiddle with this for awhile. FireFox gave me problems running some programming.

I've had some problems with the IE7 Beta, but I really like the MSN Toolbar, as long as you uncheck all the boxes for optional stuff on installation.

windows.

That stuff is old news there.

I see you also have Konfabulator, also pretty cool.

Also, check out windowblinds.
You can dload a skin that looks like the beta for Vista.

last, I think the google index/search tool is better than anything else. It searches your computer with the same speed as when it searches the internet.

anyway, thanks for the tips!

It's one of the Yahoo widgets. Called "Meteo Satellite". The actual filename is "US_meteo_by_sat.widget".
