Used it on all my PC's for the past year and have had ZERO issues with infections and hijacks. Just let it do its thing and forget about it.

I have mine set to run at 9:00am every day.

I am glad that it gets new definitions every day.  No reason to wait.

Haven't had a virus in 3 years.  Set it and forget it.

Mine updates every time I boot into windows. AVG is what I recommend for friends, and customers of my on-the-side computer business alike.

WTF can it possibly need to download everyday?

AVG is one of the few "somethings for nothing" that actually works. The other great "freebie" is Zone Alarm.  It along with AVG will give most people adequate protection from most threats.

Been using AVG for almost two years.  I love it, and yes, new virus definitions are always being made.

+1 for AVG.  Even though my University uses something else, I still use and recommend AVG.  It is good and solid.  Use it and forget about it.

Are you sure it's downloading?  It might just be checking for new defiinitions or versions.  It should do that every day, so it's up to date.

AVG is your friend.
