Go for it, as long as they keep it fun and not mean it should be fine

I give them 10 minutes before they figure out to whack with the stick-part and not the padded-part.

Excellent idea. My friends and I made suits of armor and shields out of cardboard and then bashed each other with super-thick mailing tubes. Talk about fun.

Brings back memories of Christmas cardboard-tube-samurai with my cousin...

Didn’t take long before we figured out that you only got one really good bop out of your average tube and started "enhancing" them with tape. By high school we had graduated to PVC pipe and lumber snagged from his fathers construction projects.

One of our parents finally noticed the huge purple welts and bought us sets of kendo gear.

In short, "pugle" sticks are just a gateway bopping device. It will not be long until they have moved up into serious teeth damaging fun. Soon you will need to abandon all hope of ever raising them to be on the cast of "queer eye for the metro guy." You have been warned.

(you might just skip the low level silliness and start em on kendo)

It's all fun, till one of them whacks you in the nuts.

Depends, do you like trips to the emergency room?

Is that anything like lawn darts? Because every kid should have those!

This is precisely what I thought too. Gave me quite a chuckle.

What does an F-16 have to do with lawn darts? I'm confused

The only bad idea would be not videotaping the result and sharing it with us.

One of the F-16's nicknames is lawn dart or electric lawn dart.

When we were kids, my cousins and I cut oak saplings to use for cudgels.

We never hurt anyone real bad, and it wouldn't have mattered, I think the grownups decided if we wanted all out battle, we could live with the bruises and skinned places.

We also played with tear gas from aerosol cans in those days.

Yes it would!! Pugil sticks are ALMOST as bad as playing tag at school!

What's a pugle stick?

Is it something y'all played with as a kid but something I never got to do as a kid?

Nope, something we got to play when we became men! Pugil pits are standard in Army and I believe Marine Corps basic. Two men, two big sticks, shoulder pads, and helmet!

Little brother & I used to make flails/morning stars out of tube socks (rolled up pair of socks stuffed into an over the calf tube sock) & bash each other like knights of old, using a pillow in the other hand like a shield. Great fun until somebody got smacked in the eye.
Did the cardboard tube samuri sword bit also.
Dirt clod battles
