Looking for suggestions, with a cube is the only way I know.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:04:30 PM EDT
If it's a single malt that's at least 12 years old take it neat. Don't screw it up with ice or water.

rocks or strait, depends on the specific booze
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:06:10 PM EDT
Straight up
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:06:35 PM EDT
Finished.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:06:41 PM EDT
Just a cube or two. Mixing good spirits is a waste.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:06:51 PM EDT
Ice or straight up! The same way I like my Burbon!!!!
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:08:12 PM EDT
Glenlivet 12 year.. its strong. Im used to drinking crown with a swirl of coke.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:10:04 PM EDT
On ice with a splash of water.

If Single Malt. Ice only.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:12:43 PM EDT
Neat is the only way.

I am not a fan of any hard liquor, but even I know that there's no point in adulterating whiskey.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:14:22 PM EDT
neat, or with one rock

i like glenlivet 12 and 15 y.o.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:16:14 PM EDT
couple of cubes, couple of fingers
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:19:11 PM EDT
Glenfiddich, 2 fingers, no cubes.

Pour it in a glass. Drink it.

GL

By the way, it was a silly question. It's not very difficult to experiment!

Fella im sure there are some things I know a whole lot about that you dont - but a smart man is willing to ask questions when he just doesnt know

I trade it in for bourbon.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:37:38 PM EDT
Straight up, room temperature.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:38:05 PM EDT
In Decatur last night I enjoyed it at first on the rocks. Then room temp, then back to the rocks. The poker game got too intense....couldn't get more ice for a while!
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:39:47 PM EDT
I like it with a cube or 2.

My favorites include an 18yr Macallan, and my "normal" scotch would be Glenmorangie, I like the Madiera finish, think it's a 12yr old.

Good Scotch has to be straight up! (or with a small splash of H2O)

Tonight I think I'll try some MaCallan Fine Oak 10 & Bowmore 17.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 2:50:56 PM EDT
I just got 2 bottles for my birthday. A 12 year old Johnnie Walker Black label and a 18 year old Glenlivet. I am enjoying them slowly, but always straight up.

+ a bunch. I don't think the blended Scotch has been made that's fit for human consumption, and few of the single malts are any more enjoyable than a glass of burnt dirt.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 3:20:34 PM EDT
Repeatedly!
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 3:26:18 PM EDT
Single malt. A cube or two or straight up but I like something to chase it down with if no ice.
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 3:30:06 PM EDT
Keep the bottle in the freezer
Neat but frozen!!!
Link Posted: 2/19/2006 3:40:55 PM EDT

For me just a splash of water. The water actually unlocks some flavors hidden in Scotch.

This is what I have been savoring lately.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Not cheap, but definitely worth it.

I prefer it with a bit of orange juice and a maraschino cherry. Don't forget the little umbrella.

Just kidding. Straight. Laphroaig.

Lagavulin, when I can find it locally.

Laphroaig or Macallan, otherwise.

Couple of drops of water to open the "nose" a little.

Anything else is sacrilege and an abomination.

Blended whiskey, on the other hand, is a pitiful simulacrum of real whiskey, and is deserving of whatever crap you want to mix it with. Cherry Coke, Mr. Pib, Gatorade, fizz water, fruity juice, knock yourself out.

I used to enjoy it neat only. Then I started adding one ice cube, letting it melt, then drinking. Lately I've been finding that I am adding about 4 parts club soda to 1 part scotch. And I also like to add some splashes of Angostura Bitters as well. Very good on the old stomach.
