Well, here I am, up at 3am, at work doing a 12 hour shift.

I'm a 9-to-5er normally, but work asked us to come in and do some emergent work.  This Sat night (11:30pm) to Sun morning (11:30am) 12 hour shift really gutted my weekend.

Many call me crazy for doing it.

What would you put up with for half a weeks pay?

I've done stuff like that, and never thought it was a big deal.

What I really hate is when every day is an emergency.  Mandatory overtime, when it becomes SOP, is poor planning IMHO.

Half weeks pay...

Just a minute while I take off my shoes to count...

Ok...got it figured now.

Its almost enough to have my hair and nails done, plus like 2 shirts.

So...I'd be willing to almost...WORK for it.

I can relate. There are 4 of us that do my job, working a rotating shift.
One guy's son is in a Church youth group, and he went with them for the weekend. He took two vacation days. This left 11-7 uncovered for last night (friday) and tonight (saturday).
Another guy's father-in-law passed away, so he's out of town. He's on a four-day break anyway, but being out of town, they couldn't even call him to offer the O/T.

So, I'm on 7-3 (daylight) this week. The only two here are myself and the guy on the 3-11pm shift this week. He just left. 3:06am, and I just got to work. Yee-Haw.

On the upside, I'll have 12 hours of O/T on this thursday's pay, and since Im on the daylight rotation, I'll be offered all kinds of O/T on in-plant construction jobs this week. I'll finish up friday at 3pm, on a four-day break.

That's the first thing I thought of.

Was it a trick question?

I signed a one year contract for an extra 20 weeks pay, lump sum up front.  Seemed like a good deal - I'll go ahead and stay a year, hell I was planning to anyway.

I'd work a half-a-week.  I make decent $$, and I love what I do; so I'd just work the 1/2 week.  I usually get jobs through the job I am at, word of mouth, etc= more $$ for me.

No half weeks here in mid Michigan.

This week's ice storms & resulting power outages have kept me busy playing musical generators.  Compound that with another guy leaving to be at his mother's funeral 600 miles away.  I'm covering double the territory.  So far on callouts I'm at 36hrs of double time.  The .gov is going to be happy to see my next paycheck.  I figure I'm going to collect the largest paycheck of my entire life.
