last winter during the cold spell in the east, the summit of mt.washington, in nh, was over - 100 below.
Unknown by many for the extreme cold place is it, mt, washington is considered to be 1 of the coldest places on earth. Basically because of 3 major weather systems that converge over the white mountains there, and because of the extreme cold winds that blow from the canadian northwest with nothing to slow them down as they build force till they collide with the white mountains.
Mt. washington also has the highest wind velocity recorded on earth at 230 some mph.
I check the temps there all the time, in every season, warm summer day I check it and it might be 30 degrees there.
Not so bad presently, at a respectable 14.
But I think it's a lot warmer most places in the east, feels like a cool spring night here in southern wv.
interesting site to browse if your into weather or mountains, lots of beautiful photos in the photo gallery.
