In the next 25 minutes, I'm carrying 20K of silver down to my local shipping store, it's all set up, he's going to keep it in his store for one hour, and then it goes on the UPS truck to be delivered to its destination.

I'm armed and ready, and will be standing guard over it for an hour.

He'll be in the shop, I'll be outside, eating a double cheeseburger. UPS shows up at three.

Glock 19 in my pocket, two 10 round mags in the other.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

I can just see trying to get UPS insurance to pay this claim.

You'd spend your entire life trying to get that $20K back.

You know I could probably rob u blind, and if you didn't have a ccw permit, I'd probably be acquitted

At today's price, that is over 140 pounds of silver. Who is helping you carry all this?

Dont worry, he cant hurt you, he said he is carrying a glock. More likely to hurt himself than anyone trying to rob him.

At current market prices, $20k of silver would weigh about 146 pounds.

My wife owns a jewerly store, she will be bringing home $72.000 in gold and diamonds. She's driving a Silver SL500 Mercedes. She stops at DunkinDonuts at 6:00 pm she will be alone when she arrives there. She hides the jewerly under the passenger front seat, but she told me not to tell anyone. BTW. she does not carry a firearm. Boy, I hope no one robs her.

I cant imagine why anyone would post about a bullion transfer on the internet, or discuss the dollar value of said bullion for that matter. Seems to me you might not even need a weapon if you werent telling everyone what you were up to

That said, at least you have the sense to be armed. Problem I see is, by broadcasting what you are up to, you only invite the opportunity to have to use your weapon. Better to be discrete in my opinion.

Oh, and if you happen to be liquidating walkers, franklins, morgans, or mercury dimes, IM me as I will glady pay melt on them! (if you are selling bullion you ought to know what I am talking about)

I just wonder why someone would openly admit to carrying a concealed weapon in CA, when most likely he does not have a permit since they're such hardasses about it here.

Dang, like we are supposed to be impressed?

Every day all over the place, thousands of business managers discretely carry multiple tens of thousands of dollars in unmarked bills to and from banks. Grocery sacks are popular; anything nondescript. They usually go in pairs, just to vouch for one another an case anything goes hinky.

No Big Deal.

Peak_Oil, his views on petroleum notwithstanding, is an honest guy.
He posts a lot in the Survival forum.
If you did as well, you would know why he has so much silver.
If the dollar goes down the shitter, and it will, you'd wish you had some real currency on hand.

I dont post much in the SF these days.
I understand the value of bullion vs. paper money that is worthless if a government collapses.
It would make more sense to have gold, but I digress.
I dont question the choice to hoard precious metal...I just think its pretty stupid to talk about it on the Internet. Incidentally, if he is shipping 20K in silver, obviously he sold it....so having paper money must have its purposes to.
Link Posted: 2/16/2006 1:46:54 PM EDT
Trading it in for gold, or is has the metals bubble peaked?

Dective Danny Costanzo:
Yo! Hey!
Yo. Hey. Yo!
Can I have your attention, please?
This is a neighborhood watch area.

Snake:
What's he doin'?

Dective Ray Hughes:
Rich people make him crazy.

Danny:
There's a guy up here named Snake.
He's wearin' garage-sale clothes and
the top of his hair looks like a parakeet.

He also has $50,000 in small bills in a briefcase.

As his neighbors, you must make sure
there are no suspicious characters...
...or evil perpetrators lurkin' in the area
who would seek to do him harm.

Again, $50,000 in small bills. Tax free!

In a briefcase, in this apartment,
which has really cheeseball locks.

You can push in, bop him on the head,
take it... Nobody'll know.

So it's up to you.

Thanks a lot. Have a good day.

I love it when a plan comes together. No problems. I did manage to freak out the guy that runs the local pack'n ship. He shut down the biz for an hour while we weighed it and packed it up and got it ready for the trucks. We had the gate pulled across the front door and the Closed sign flipped while we took care of things.

I just kind of hung around outside til the shipper showed up and took off.

That was fun.

How about clean water, clean food, contraceptives, antibiotics and the knowledge to employ them, propane, gasoline, tampons, diapers, baby formula.

Guns and ammo are great but I'm not giving any away to strangers.

Where are you getting your HK91s these days, anyway?

I was at a gold mine in MT and asked how they shipped their dore. Guy finally admits "We wrap it in brown paper, insure it and mail it USPS. We have had one stolen. Insurance paid off quicker than the refiner and it the guy who took it is serving time in a federal pen. FBI caught the guy in 2 days."
