how can they? most flags suck.
is it orange and white and green or green and white and orange. turn it on it's side or backward and you get a two for one discount??? half the time i am thinking what country is that again? they just don't stand out. much less look awsome fluttering in the breeze like the USA.  http://realpolitik.us/03image/freethechildren.jpg

The American flag is very cool
 , but the Danish flag rules over all.  It is oldest existing national flag, being first used in a battle against heathens in Estonia in 1219, and is a simple white Christian cross on a solid red field - can't get simple, yet more meaningful than that. The Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, English (and others) are based on the Danish flag. |

Of other countries' flags, the only ones I think look as cool as ours are the Canadian flag and possibly the British flag.

The US flag is the most awesome national flag in existence.
Though there a few others that are kinda cool. Heck, if that one flag with the AK-47 on it didn't belong to some shithole country in Africa, it'd be pretty awesome too. |

That's the secret flag, that we only fly at the meetings when we plan world conquest! We're thinking long-term. The Viking settlements in North America a thousand years ago was a recon mission. Now we're working on making you totally dependent on our baby back ribs and ham, as well as our mighty wind power technology. Do you really think the current high oil prices and "buy Danish" campaigns after this cartoon debacle are not part of our master plan? We're planning to invade North America in another four or five hundred years - unless the weather is bad, or there's something good on the tv.

The USA's flag is great, but too hard to draw correctly. England's is great and much easier to draw. Canada's okay. Mexico is not that good looking and impossible for someone without artistic talent to draw.
Denmark's is a good too. Not as good as England's but better than Canada's. The worst are France, Russia, Germany and others. I just can't see how people can get all welled up with emotion looking at three colored stripes. |

3rd confederate national is not as good as first IMO. Also 2nd confederate national looks better w/o the red bar, but there were obvious problems with having a mostly white flag. |

I think its the patriotic pride that makes you feel proud when you see our flag. And as an American, knowing what each of the symbols and the number of stars and stripes mean, etc...
 I think the same thing happens in other countries with their own flags, depending of course on how strongly the people identify with their nation state vis-a-vis ethnic/religious/cultural identifications. Not all flags suck, but the US's is definitely more distinct.         ...or maybe "other" things influence your thinking about your flag:

Reminds me how my bro must feel right now in the Army. He's a mortuary specialist. Says "full loads" come in pretty often and they sometimes bring even the most seasoned guys in his unit to tears. |

You know what ticks me off? Is now that we're no longer saying the pledge of allegiance in the classrooms or honoring the flags in our schools and etc kids have no respect for our flag. My kids [Will -11th grade, Whitney 9th grade] play basket ball and surprisingly as it might seem they still sing the national anthem before the beginning of the Varsity Girls basket ball games. I've taught my kids how to stand at attention to the flag but most kids do not know. I've had to walk down on the court a few times, physically point girls towards the flag, lift their arms over their heart and point my fingers to my lips to show that we must be silent during the honoring of our nation. I've had to do some of the above and all of the above. I guess I didn't have to but did do.

Vito? Wales is a country, not a state or province, right?
Cypriot flag is pretty good. It's the only one that has its map on it. That way, if you can't correlate the colours, but you have an idea what the country looks like, you're sorted. Pretty good idea, if you ask me.  NTM |
