GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- A California man was being held in Grand Junction Monday for allegedly driving a stolen pickup truck, but authorities said he could face much more serious charges of drug smuggling.

A state trooper pulled over Oscar Huerta, 26, early Sunday after he allegedy failed to yield for an emergency vehicle.

A license plate check on the truck Huerta was driving showed it had been reported stolen in New York.

Authorities said they also found a stash of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia, plus $8,000 in cash. Paycheck stubs showed Huerta makes less than $300 every two weeks, investigators said.

Huerta was jailed on suspicion of theft, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, drug paraphernalia possession, and an immigration violation.
