The guy at lowes looked funny at me when I asked for some 600 grit.  I need 350, 600, and 800.

Possibly.  Best bet is to look in yellow pages under "automobile paint".

Thats not ultra-fine.... 600 is normal.

I have some 3000g at home...

Edit: I get mine at Wal-Mart.

All of the above.  If the person at Lowes looked at you funny, I think you asked the wrong person.  They have it and finer grain.

Another place to look is hobby shops.  They go pretty fine there too, especially the ones specializing in RC cars.

Any boat store will have up to 2000, sometimes up to 3000 depending on the store.

I've bought at least 800 grit at my lowe's before.  It's right next to the stain and polyurethane here.
