There are some SF guys here doing some MFF training. They brought their own airplane, looks like a civilian leased stretched CASA. They love to sit and idle it for 30-40 minutes at a time.

Man, it's a good thing this military thing isnt a for profit operation.

Pics below.

Shows how little you know.

They're running the engines to get the elite airborne assault cats acclimated to the sound.

Maybe the pilot needs some hours in the log book.

I take it that idling a plane is expensive?

Jet fuel aint cheap. Time on the engines isnt free either.

Running a skydiving business, we'll take the cycles over the fuel/engine time cost.

I didnt talk with them so I dont know who they are. Could be anyone from Rangers to PJs to SBU. Most likely Rangers.

Rangers jump with steerable square chutes?

Some of them do and I know that for a fact, they've trained here. I imagine they might have recon units, pathfinders, or quick reaction units that are MFF qualified but I dont know if the Rangers deploy using MFF.

They may just be MFF qualified and are keeping up their quals.

Want me to go over and tell him you said hi?

I am in Zhills.

ETA: Spooks? I thought that was a possibility because of the plane. It's all white and devoid of numbers.

the plane is a lease job, and dropping those guys is his first post-retirement gig. he signed on for 2 years, bought himself a condo in Z-hills and parked his monster 5th wheel trailer out in AZ. the primary is focus is dropping jump qual'd spooks but he said he has dropped various HSLD types in small groups. they just bill from one organization to the other.
