that's pretty cool.
but i am not sure there is anough meat on them to be farming them? take a bunch of the little buggers to make it worth firing up the grill

There is a guy locally who has a butterfly museum.
One of the wierdest people I have ever met, and disagreeable, to boot. Obviously no relation to MrsG. |

One year I went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History and they had a butterfly Expo there. All kinds of butterflies, but they have a very short life span like on the order of a few weeks. All of the buidlings that housed the exhibits had a negative air pressure to prevent the butterfilies(some that were non-native to the area) from escaping because butterflies are essentially moths.

These butterflies are mean.
 Every time I put my hand in the cage to add food, they attack me. Gloftoe says I should squish them. My daughter disagrees. |

My wife raised butterflies for our wedding. She had a whole refrigerator full of 'em. They made cacoons inside these silver cardboard pyramid things with ribbon holding them together. When we came outside instead of everyone throwing rice, they opened the pyramids, and the butterflies flew for the first time into the sky. It was absolutely beautiful.
Ahem, not that I'm into that kind of stuff...

Yeah but can you herd them yet. That is cool. I use to get 10-20 monarchs on my dill and fennel each year. I would never kill them because they where just too cool to watch. |

a bit off topic but what is up with butterfly's a gunsmoke. at the range in the summer the seem to be drawn to hot guns right after firing them. usually see several around the guns on the line

Disaster struck!
Tonight when I was upstairs with the girls, Gloftoe forgot to close the living room door when he went outside. As you can imagine, these two are quite attentive of the butterflies:  I heard a "THUD" and came downstairs to see the cats had pulled the butterfly cage and the stocking hanger I was using for it onto the floor, and the cage was upside down. Two butterflies were stuck underneath orange slices, and the sugar water I had put into a flower for them was splattered all around the cage. I had to temporarily relocate all of the butterflies into a jar while I rinsed out their cage. I put them back in there, but they're still pretty sticky. We'll see how it goes.

hubby keeps talking about wanting to get a big fishtank--i tell him im sure either one or both of our cats will learn to swim, if he does and he can clean up the mess im sure will be made
