HIS EYES ARE ABLAZE... SEE THE MADMAN IN HIS GAZE.... Personally, I prefer the song 'revelations'. That one really brings home the bacon. |

You take my life
I'l Take your's too You fire your musket I'll run you through The Trooper I listened to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son yesterday. Brought back many memories as does all the old metal songs |

"Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the
beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short... Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast for it is a human number, its number is Six hundred and sixty six." THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST......Maiden definitely rulez |

+87,00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Hallowed Be Thy Name I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime. Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time. 'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows pole, The sands of time for me are running low. When the priest comes to read me the last rites, I take a look through the bars at the last sights, Of a world that has gone very wrong for me. Can it be that there's some sort of error. Hard to stop the surmounting terror. Is it really the end, not some crazy dream. Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming, It's not so easy to stop from screaming, The words escape me when I try to speak. Tears flow but why am I crying, After all I'm not afraid of dying. Don't I believe that there never is an end. As the guards march me out to the courtyard, Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you". If there's a God then why has he let me go? As I walk all my life drifts before me, Though the end is near I'm not sorry. Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away. Mark my words believe my soul lives on. Don't worry now that I have gone. I've gone beyond to seek the truth. When you know that your time is close at hand. Maybe then you'll begin to understand, Life down here is just a strange illusion Heey jeey yeahh. Hallowed be thy name Heey jeey yeahh. Hallowed be thy name Yeeeeeahh! |

Personally, I prefer the song 'revelations'. That one really brings home the bacon. Same here. One of my favorite songs of all time. Nothing like listening to Maiden to remind me of my junior and senior years in high school (late 80's), drinking lots of beers with my friends. Those were the days... |

Run to the hills
White man came across the sea He brought us pain and misery He killed our tribes, he killed our creed He took our game for his own need We fought him hard we fought him well Out on the plains we gave him hell But many came too much for cree Oh will we ever be set free? Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes Galloping hard on the plains Chasing the redskins back to their holes Fighting them at their own game Murder for freedom a stab in the back Women and children and cowards attack Run to the hills run for your lives Run to the hills run for your lives Soldier blue on the barren wastes Hunting and killing their game Raping the women and wasting the men The only good indians are tame Selling them whisky and taking their gold Enslaving the young and destroying the old Run to the hills run for your lives |

I saw Maiden open for KISS in the early eighties. Paul Di'Anno was the front man....remember that?
Seen them a dozen times since.... |

we must be the same age, lol. the last minute of revelations is one of the finest moments in music as far as I'm concerned. |

.......and the best song Maiden ever wrote
Kill for gain or shoot to maim But we don’t need a reason The golden goose is on the loose And never out of season Some blackened pride still burns inside This shell of bloody treason Here’s my gun for a barrel of fun For the love of living death. The killer’s breed or the demon’s seed, The glamour, the fortune, the pain, Go to war again, blood is freedom’s stain, But don’t you pray for my soul anymore. 2 minutes to midnight The hands that threaten doom. 2 minutes to midnight To kill the unborn in the womb. The blind men shout let the creatures out We’ll show the unbelievers The napalm screams of human flames Of a prime time belsen feast...yeah! As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy, We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies. The body bags and little rags of children torn in two And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you. As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song, To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun. Midnight...all night... |

I discovered Maiden as a 38 year old.
All those wasted years. |
|
I lost Maiden when they lost Paul. Number and Piece were good albums. Bruce is a GREAT frontman. But Paul, damn. What could have been.

Anybody here listen to Megadeth? I've got them on the old Sony MiniDisc right now.
|
|
Absolutely! I saw Maiden on the Powerslave tour at the ripe ol age of 15 and it has not been equaled in all these years. Maiden is the one band in all these years I can still listen to and enjoy time and again. Man am I glad that Dickinson is back. The last CD was good and I went to the show and had a blast. It really took me back. Up the IRONS! |

Was a BIG Maiden fan back in the day, my all time favorite was:
The Prisoner I'm on the run, I'll kill to eat, Starving now, feeling dead on my feet. Going all the way, I'm nature's beast. Do what i want, I do as i please. Run, you've gotta fight, to breathe, it's tough. Now you see me, now you don't. Break the walls, I'm coming out. I'm not a prisoner, I'm a free man, And my blood is my own now. Don't care where the past was, I know where I'm going...out. If you kill me, it's self defence. If I kill you, then I call it vengeance. Spit in your eye, I will defy. You'll be afraid when I call out your name. Run, you've gotta fight, to breathe, it's tough. Now you see me, now you don't. Break the walls, I'm coming out. I'm not a prisoner, I'm a free man, And my blood is my own now. Don't care where the past was, I know where I'm going. I'm not a number, I'm a free man, I'll live my life how i want to. You'd better scratch me from your black book, 'Cause I'll run rings around you. |
|
yup. back then Eddie was a dude with a mask and all he did was wave around one of the stage lights in front of a little smoke machine. Di'Anno was a great singer. Strange World is one of Maidens best songs ever. Runing Free was probably my next favorite tune. Ok that or Charlotte the HArlot. Dang almost all songs from the first two albums are unbeatable. |

Agreed on the album art. Love the cover art to Powerslave, as well as the tune. First metal LP that I owned as a kid.
Into the abyss I'll fall-the eye of Horus Into the eyes of the night-watching me go Green is the cat's eye that glows-in this temple Enter the risen Osiris-risen again. Tell me why I had to be a powerslave I don't wanna die, I'm a god, why can't I live on? When the Life Giver dies, all around is laid to waste. And in my last hour, I'm a slave to the power of death. When I was living this lie-fear was my game People would worship and fall-drop to their knees So bring me the blood and red wine for the one to succeed me For he is a man and a god-and he will die too. Now I am cold but a ghost lives in my veins, Silent the terror that reigned-maarbled in stone Shell of a man God preserved-a thousand ages But open the gates of my hell-I will strike from the grave. |

This is positively the BEST fucking Maiden song ever. I always loved the bass interlude and instrumental part of this one. When I was playing in bands in high school (played drums, guitar, and bass, but couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag though), I would always practice my bass chops at home with this one. Steve Harris is the shit, yo! Ahem, ok, I now return myself back to being 35 again... |
|
|
Steve Harris is the FATHER of METAL BASS. Though I'm not Maidens biggest fan. He was the man all other bass players were judged. Metal, that is. Second to none. When I learned to play Phantom of the Opra, I thought I was the shit! Can still play it now after all these years. |
|
|
Maiden will always be a sort of overriding presence. I believe they are one of those bands that set the bar so high, that the mainstream of metal had no choice but to sort of amble on as if they weren't there. Their influence is undeniable.

I had to re-kindle this thread, as I just happened upon it looking for something else. (can't believe I missed it in the first place ). Anyway, gotta give my favorite album vote to Piece Of Mind ("Flight of Icarus" and "The Trooper" are the BEST Maiden songs EVER!!!). That said....and as much as I dig Bruce Dickinson, man I gotta wonder how it woulda been had DiAnno stuck around. Iron Maiden is my second favorite album, as I absolutely love "Remember Tomorrow" and "Charlotte the Harlot" (the first installment in the "Charlotte" series). Man, Maiden never, ever grows old to me.......I gotta say they are my all-time favorite band. IMO, Steve Harris is very underrated, not only as a bassist, but the brains behind the song writing and image of Maiden.

Always loved that picture....my favorite Eddie photo/picture. Ever check out "troopersounds.com"? Pretty good info for the truly hard-core Maiden fan. |
|
|
Hell yeah! I have a Marty Friedman signature series Jackson Kelly. I haven't really listened to any of their newer stuff past "Cryptic Writings", though. |

for all you BitTorrent users out there .....
Complete IRON MAIDEN Discography 1.54 GB download, seperated by album. Most albums include JPEGs of the cover art....... |
|
ROFL I discovered Maiden in high school, but this was in the mid 90s. I would have loved to see the Powerslave tour, too bad I was just a kid. |

Best Iron Maiden song... EVER! |
