...but in the wake of all the ND's (yes they are ND's), I thought I would post a little reminder.
This is a dupe link, but it sets up the following pics: The original story here.. Here is the hand 4.5 months later. The surgeon put it back together well and earned his money BIG time.  Here is all I can make of a fist (so far). You can see the muscle atrophy above my thumb. I destroyed the intrinsic nerve to that muscle group and don't know if it will ever come back.  Here is a feeble attempt at the "claw". Chuck will have to keep his interim sparring partner for awhile longer.  The tendon graft to the ring finger is bound in the scar tissue and "might" bust loose with more aggresive PT. If not, the surgeon gets paid again. Please excuse the site in the background, I know it's not our beloved ARFCOM. That was the site my original post was on. Someone lifted it, and all the "US Marshall" crap started. ND's are serious stuff. It doesn't matter if only the TV, bedroom wall, or you pride were hurt. They shouldn't happen, but they do. Play safe. Out. |

Feeling is about 85%. Cold really jacks it up though.

when I cut my thumb in half (off), the doctors said I would NEVER have full function again in that thumb. Well guess what. I do and the doctors can fuck themselves for what they told me.
now I do realize that what happened to your hand was a lot more than my thumb, but if you want it you will have it. It just takes a little time. Have a little faith brother |

OOOOOOOH, Hey everybody look at me........I want attention too.! You might think your perfect, but I think Your an ASS! ecgRN, I think it's good that you post these. It will make people be more careful when using messing with guns. I bet a lot of people think if you get shot in the hand it will be this nice neat little hole that you get a couple of stiches and good as new.  ,when that doctor said you got lucky, boy and howdy. To travel that far through that much tissue, nerves and bones and not have lost anything permanently (crosses fingers), you were very fortunate indeed.Keep working the PT thing. The more you make it work, the more it will build back. Good luck. Would like an update in a month or so. |

How long did it take for the ambulance to arrive? I would have thought your wife would have taken you to the ER, wouldn't that have been faster? We all need to slow down whenever we touch our guns.. sorry for all the pain you've gone through and will have to deal with in the future. Oh and I care also. |
