how come the winter olympics are in 2006?

i thought the winter olympics was the same year as summer, 2008

what did i miss?

They've had them every 2 years for awhile now dude. Winter olympics are 4 years apart and summer olympics are 4 years apart, they are just staggered and have been for as long as I can remember.

If I remember the IOC ran Winter Olympics in 1992 and then again in 1994 so that they would not be staged the same year that the Summer Games are run.
