Trekker.

Good job on proper use.

Not according to Gene Roddenberry.

The gun haterz look at us like some of you look at him.

Where's the tolerance, baby?

If you don't like it, don't do it yourself.

I would look the same way at a guy who lost his wife and ended up in bankruptcy because he spent all his money on some kind of cool ARs. I like guns as much as anyone but I'm not going to try to remodel the exterior of my house to look like a waffle mag.

Same.
Your hobby should not rule your life like that.

Free expression means he can act like a tool AND I get to call him a tool.  Turning your flat into a star trek scene is definitely toolish behavior.

Star Trek Pr0n?  That's already been done.  Hilarity did, in fact, ensue.  The cast included Commander William Dyker, Beaverly Gusher, and Lt. Commander Dildo.

Oh.  Well, there's always room for sequels.  Or variations on theme...  like...  Star Trek Midget Porn!!!

For all the dorkiness, we should realize three things:

1) It DOES look really good

2) It takes courage to take that kind of risk (or insanity, I suppose....)

3) A Trekkers (Trekkies?) situation is not quite comprable to ours: while our hobby already involves something that is tangible and real (i.e., guns that we can actually buy/shoot/fondle), Star Trek fans are limited by imagination - their hobby ISN'T tangible, it is a concept, a show that can be watched, but not much more. What this guy did was simply to change that, to make his hobby "real" so to speak. To put it into perspective, what would we do if guns were completely banned? Look at Japan (and the American youth): if they can't have real guns, they settle with fake Airsoft guns, as a way to bring a once-impossibly distant interest into the realm of tactile "reality".

(Sorry if that made no sense... )

ETA: But I must say...why would you do the "Voyager"? Enterprise D is the obvious choice...

I totally agree.  Fantasy decorating is a pretty brilliant idea.  Just imagine doing a room in your basement as a WWII submarine or something like that.  I bet rich, "reality-detatched" people would eat that up.

I give him credit for having a vision and going with it.

The chicks who have big boobs want little ones because they are tired of the attention, and the little boobed chicks want big ones because they would like to feel pretty for once.
The "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome.
