I've got my annual trip to Las Vegas coming up in a few weeks and I just can't resist having free
cocktails.

Putting hookers and blow aside to make you forget your ills, is there anything that can really help a hangover?

There was the rumor when I was growing up in a small town that the local doctor would give his self injections of vitamin B. I know that I can't do that for myself but, I can take some oral B complex vitamins, if this really works.

Any suggestions?

This might sound dumb, but Salted Nut Roll candy bars have always been a magic bullet for me. I used to tend bar and one day I was really hungover at the beginning of my shift and I grabbed one and ate it out of deperation for ANYTHING to ease the pain and my hangover vanished!

I have since used them several times for it and they have never failed me. I've had friends try them too and they all now swear by them.

I think its' the sugar, protein and salt all in one package that makes them work so well...

YMMV

1. Drink water before, during, and after the hangover, and you will avoid the worst.
2. During the hangover, also drink V8 juice.
3. You have to feed the hangover; eat a BIG meal upon awakening and continue to eat during the day.

A drink gets that pounding out of your head.

Drink a 32 oz Gatorade or whatever before you go to sleep, You'll wake up feeling better than you would otherwise. Electrolytes and all that fun stuff do a body good.

I haven't had a hangover in quite a while, but cmjohnson is right, stay hydrated by drinking alot of water

but if the hangover exists the next morning,

Alka-seltzer is about the only thing that works for me

When my brother was receiving chemotherapy for testicular cancer, he went out and had too much to drink one night prior to a chemo session the following morning. The nurse gave him i.v. Zofran and Tagamet and one other drug. He was better in seconds. Other than access to that combination, I recommend a liter of water and a couple of Advil.

Here it is: the fruit of all our painstaking research, The Almighty Hangover Emergency Cure. While the ingredients in this kit are based on hard science and not personal mythology, it must be said that there really is no cure for a hangover in the same sense that penicillin is a cure for an infection. There are several things, however, that you can put into your body to ease the pain and assist rapid recovery, including a little-known substance called cysteine. Cysteine directly counteracts the poisonous effects of acetaldehyde. The following arsenal-in-a-milkshake is so loaded with the anti-toxic munitions your body needs, that after it makes short work of your hangover, it might just clear out your nasal passages, shrink your hemorrhoids, and leap out of your body and write your History term paper. Behold the official SoYouWanna.com Almighty Hangover Emergency Cure (patent pending):

1. Take 2 aspirins
2. Take 200mg cysteine (available at specialty food stores)
3. Take 600mg vitamin C
4. Take 1 tablet vitamin B-complex
5. Mix the following ingredients together in a blender:

1 banana
1 small can V-8
6 large strawberries
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup orange juice
1-2 cups milk (or soy milk), to desired consistency
¼ tsp. salt
dash of nutmeg

6. Drink it all up.

Drink a shitload of Powerade before you pass out, and a shitload more when you wake up.

From my understanding, it is a bit better than Gatorade as it contains Vitamin B as well as electrolytes which will fix you right up. Not to mention hydrating you.

I have also heard that breathing oxygen from a tank will rid you of the hangover blues really, really quick, but I have never tried it.

Hair of the dog that bit you.

Just start hitting the booze heavy as soon as you wake up and you'll feel great in no time. Of course, you risk ending up a hopeless drunk if you use this technique.

A hangover is basically all of the cells in your body screaming for more booze.

yes, quit drinking

Find a f-16, locate air supply hose, mask not nessary, turn oxygen supply to emergency,,,,breath for 1 minute....breath normal air for a couple minutes ....breath 100% pure oxygen for another minute......no more headache!!!!!

Worked everytime for us when I was in AF.......don't have a fighter handy......................find an old lady in a wheel chair and bum a few breaths off her ;)

Using this method you will have to piss about every 15 minutes...

Also, if you pass out using the water chaser method- YOU WILL WET THE BED....don't ask me how I know.

I have damn good luck with drinking a shitload of water and if I'm still coherent before going to bed (read: passing out), I try to remember to pop a multi-vitamin or two.

I rarely get hangovers anymore with the water/multivitamin method, though, I always pop a half dose of asprin or Tylenol when I wake up just to make sure it doesn't creep up later that day, before I start drinking again.

Hangovers are from being dehydrated and the alcohol wiping out the vitamins in your body.

Water and time.

If you are a drunk scout coming back to FT Hood from Austin and have PT formation in three hours, pound on SPC Goon's door and, have him hook you up with an IV.

Staying drunk for my whole tour also worked form me in Germany. I was drunk all the time, so, I really didn't realize if I was hungover or not.

water - sleep - more water - time thats about it

Alcohol depletes all the Thiamin (vitamin b1) in your body. You need thiamin to process sugars. Your body can not make thiamin. This is why B-vitamins help with a hangover. Alot of people think you need sugar/food the morning after, this is good advice but you have to make sure you have thiamin to process the sugar.
Of course water is vital due to dehydration.
Another vitamin you might want to try is Folic Acid. When we would get alcoholics (old heads who constantly drank from the time they got out until their next arrest) in at the jail, they were placed on Thiamin 1mg and Folic acid 1mg daily for one month.
For the officers Sunday mornings, I would give them 2 enteric coated Asprin, one Thiamin and one Folic Acid. I would also tell them to drink as much water as possible. Within one hour they were feeling much better.

Drink less

Drink more

Those are really the only two options to avoid one.

Please read the LABEL and WARNINGS on Tylenol. It's very bad for your liver if you drink to excess. There have been many people who have unintentionally overdosed on Tylenol after binge drinking.

First of all, do not drink on an empty stomach. If you're going to be pounding them back then first chow down!! It will slow the uptake of alcohol and you'll be the least drunk of your group.

Second, hydrate the next day. Forget Gatorade or soda - drink tons of water. It will help tone down your hangover.

Third, oxygen if you can get it. I used to work radiology in a VA hospital and all the techs would breathe off the O2 tank when they stumbled in hung over. I thought it was a joke until I tried it one day and it really perked me up.

+1

One Gatorade before bed.

One when you wake up along with two advils, and you'll be good to go in 45 mins.

Bring some pepto bismal along too, just incase you went overboard.

I think I had a $750 "free" bottle of Crown Royal one evening at a craps table in the Venetian casino.

I chalk it up as entertainment!

That bag of juice is the best. I also recomend 100% Oxygen. In Las vegas they have those bars everywhere. When we used to go TDY someplace where we could drink the IDMT would hook us up to an IV and you were good to go in no time. No IDMT, we would inhale the oxygen from the aircraft(C-5) they had the emergency masks in the cockpit. Go to Vegas with an EMT guy or a doctor.

Before you pass out for the night...

take two ibuprofen and drink at least a pint of water. When you wake up in the morning take some more ibuprofen (if needed) and drink some more water.
Link Posted: 2/7/2006 7:33:06 PM EDT
I find the easiest thing is to not get them. This involves a combination of not drinking too much and not going to sleep while drunk. Works every time.

Along with dehdration, alcohol that is processed in your body turns into an aldehyde (i cant remeber the exact one) which is toxic to your body (imagine that, alcohol does toxic things to your body). Water helps with the dehdration and dilluting the toxic chemicals, but for the most part your liver has to take care of that (this is where liver disease comes from). Tylenol or a like will help with the headache caused from the aldehyde and dehydration.
