I am 17 years old and as you all know when I turn 18 I have to sign up for the draft. With all of the recent talk of Iran it seems like war is just around the corner. With our troops all across the world, will the United States begin drafting? College this time doesn't even seem like an option since a college education would be so wide spread now. I am not a coward and will not flee to Canada. So what are the odds? Should I break out my AR-15 and start practicing now, and begin a physical training regime, or am I safe? I have no health defects other than the fact that I am obese (6'3" 295lbs.), but they still get you I am told. I wasn't planning on joining the military, but I must say it always looked like fun on TV, but reality is way different. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?
ETA First off, I am not a troll. I really want to make that clear. I am not trolling or screwing around. I ask this question because most of todays youth, including myself aren't really ready to fight a war. The "Is it worth dying for?" comment was made not to sound like a hippy, but to ask a serious question. Most of the kids my age really don't care about anything other than listening to their greenday crap and talking smack about each other. To them the answer is obvious. No. They simply don't give a crap. I think it is important to realize that there is a very good chance of dying over in Iran, they would be much harder than Iraq. They have mountains and a good bit of people already wearing bomb belts. I don't think we would lose, but I think a draft may be an option if it turns out rough. I really haven't given military service much thought. (Look at my weight, its not like I've been preparing) But I really wouldn't like to join under such a situation like getting out of High School. ETA Some of you guys are seriously taking this too far. I give one fucking fact about myself and you all go apeshit. You have no idea who I am, what I am like or anything. I have a 3.6 Cumultive GPA, take AP courses at the local public High School. My ideaology places me in the moderate to conservate catagory. I am anti gun control. I am involved and love lifting weights. In my sophmore year I took a weight lifting class and by the end, I was able to bench 300lbs. That was so good in fact, that the instructor asked me to play football as an offensive lineman. He said that he could take some guys off, and replace them with me. The instructor was a former NFL NY Giants player, Rob Carpenter. A former Army Ranger was the head of the Offensive team and he agreed with Carpenter's assement. I ultimatly chose not to take the position due to my adcademic persuits, but still I continue to lift and work hard. Now, I don't know anything about you guys, but I would bet the people that made those comments might be singing a different tune if we had this disscussion in real life. |

Nope. There doesn't need to be a draft, regardless of what the liberal fearmongers are spreading.
there's a whole shitload of IRR types(myself included) that will be called up LONG before your fat ass is drafted |
A draft would be worse than useless. A better solution would be to offer more money to new recruits.
Whats an IRR? Does the draft card need to be filled out with my physical information? If not then they will not know that I am fat. |
I'm praying for a draft, all the illegal aliens will leave overnight. This country will have 50% less traffic and the emergency rooms will be useful again.
based on the time schedule i dont think a draft is possible. although i don't see how they can do it without one.. but thats what they got rummie for...
draft schedule: 1. get it through congress (not sure if this is necessary but congress sure as hell would raise a stink). 2. get it set up and start drafting solders 3. train soldiers 4. duploy overseas.. with all the support and material... what would that take? two years? eta.. bout that time the next presidential election comes up.. care to take a guess what the major issue would be? |
+1 |

But is it worth dying for? |
IRR= inactive reserves
they wont care if you're a disgusting fatbody, they'll just make like Gunny Hartman and run you skinny |
Pyle, you disgust me.....you are a disgusting fat body. Drop and give me fifty!
holy fucking DU response is being a massively disgusting obese sack of lard worth dying for? because you'll die of congestive heart failure long before you do anything worthwhile for your country |
God damn. Thats what I was afraid of |
stfu and gtfo |
no kidding man, can you say supplemental armor? I think we've found the solution to IEDs!(one time use only) |
Whats an MEPS? Please try to keep this disscussion serious. |
you make me sick. Your young, your fat, and you don't give a fucking damn. 3 years ago, i was 270, now i'm 180 with a fat stomach and i'm still working that out. Your too young to be a disgusting sack of shit. |
i'm really hoping this guy isn't serious and is just a , although i'm not so sure...
Putting world events aside for a moment - -I'd suggest you shed the excess weight now while your young. Easier to do so now while you have a higher metabolism. Just being slightly overweight raises your risk for a series of long term health problems. Start eating right and get in shape and you'll thank yourself later. Trust me - the cost of staying healthy are far less than health care. My dad had a heart attack recently. The cost of the Life Flight = $11,000, Intensive Care Unit (4 days) =$116,000. He is now taking $400 /mo. in meds to lower his blood pressure among other things. I thank God his life was spared, but it certainly was a wake up call for him to take his health more seriously.
PS - And by all means - get an AR-15 and start practicing. Not because of some impending war...BUT because you are a FREEDOM loving American who has THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!! |
Do you guys make it a point to go around busting little kids chops over dumb questions and how much they weigh? Take it easy on him. We were all pretty naive at 17.
TheRedHorseman, What is your deal? Everytime i go to a thread you are on you seem t be giving people shit? |
Seriously Burkey. If you get drafted, you will step up to the plate. Why? Because you don't want women in the military to do more push-ups and run a faster mile than you. |
And the Dumbass Brigade is out in full force in this topic, it seems.
The guy asked whether or not he should be worried about a draft, not whether or not you think his weight is acceptable. But no, instead of answering his fucking question, you dipshits just go off on a tangent about how much you hate him, without having met him, because he's overweight. Wow, great fucking job. Again, Burkey, NO, you do NOT have to worry about a draft. A draft would cause nothing but the influx of anti-war people into the military against their will, angering them and making them likely to bail or sabotage, and the government knows this. The ONLY people trying to instate a draft are democrats in congress who are hoping that the public will forget who introduced the bill and concentrate on the fact that it would be passed under a republican president. And they failed at that. |
MEPS= Military Entrance Processing Station. You'll find out soon enough. |
wholy s**t, that's insane. glad your dad's ok. |
If they do it my way then they won't need a draft. You can't "draft" fighter pilots, bomber pilots and special forces.
Do to Iran what Isreal did to Iraq when Saddam started building a nuke plant. Bomb the fucker and then fly home. |
Me thinks the author of this thread is probably a DU troll,I would say 80% chance troll,20% chance serious. As far as busting on him for his weight, maybe they will motivate him to loose some weight and possibly save his life |
WTF? You say you aren't a coward and that you wouldn't flee to Canada, and then you post this gem:
Who the fuck made you President of the United States of America? Who are you and your 295lbs. to decide what is and is not a worthy cause to die for or where U.S. troops should be sent? These are rhetorical, in case you haven't figured it out.
No, you are all safe and sound because there are men and women out there who <gasp> volunteered (imagine that) to take care of your bubble-butt. So you can go back to rubbing your pretty pink pussy to internet porn and eating Cheetos. DU |

There is no Draft. You register with Selective Service. Most of us here did also, no big deal. |

I like this guy. |

This is the exact type of mentality that is causing the conservative youth to run over to becoming a ranting leftist scumbag. Good job alienating a kid who is probably just in need of some proper guidance. Some of the guys on here are just childish petty babies who are sitting behind keyboards making up for a lack of happiness in real life Get a life and quit tearing into kids who want advice from guys into shooting. Youre Sarah Bradys best ally morons.
you should know, i'm 17....one of the conservative youth your talking about..and theres plenty of other conservative youth here as well. HK_Shooter, uh...and a few other guys. We're just picking on the idiot. |
ETA: You are not safe. You should get on a phisical fitness training regime for your health. Regardless of wheather or not there is a draft. |

No by all means stay out of shape and for goodness sakes DON'T learn to shoot your rifle...what PRACTICAL reason is there for THAT? |
