Jumpin Jesus, do ALL of these teachers run off and contact the feds everytime some kid does something stupid? Granted, I think the kid needs help. But DOESN'T the Secret Service have better things to do than investigate a 7th grader?

Next thing you know, instead of making sure a kid like this gets mental help, they'll throw him in one of those "detention" camps.

Police shooting everyone, kids being charged with felonies (I know, I know, not this kid), kids being "investigated" by federal agencies and homeland security...does anyone feel like this country is spinning out of control????

R.I. School Essay Brings in Secret Service

WEST WARWICK, R.I.

The Secret Service is investigating a seventh-grader who wrote a school essay that authorities say advocated violence against President Bush, talk show host Oprah Winfrey and others.

The boy's homework assignment for English class was to write what he would do on a perfect day. In addition to the president and Winfrey, the boy wrote that violence should be directed at executives of Coca- Cola and Wal-Mart, police and school officials said.

"His perfect day would be to see the destruction of these people," Schools Superintendent David Raiche said.

The Secret Service investigation is ongoing, but the essay may have been a "cry for help," said Thomas M. Powers, resident agent in charge in Providence. Threatening the president is a felony, he said.

Authorities would not identify the boy or his teacher or release a copy of the essay. He was not arrested, police Detective Sgt. Fernando Araujo said.

"It wasn't any detailed, minute-by-minute plan," Araujo said. "It didn't meet the criteria for a criminal charge."

The boy has been temporarily barred from school, but as a mental health rather than disciplinary precaution, Raiche said.

The SS investigates ALL threats against the President no matter how trivial.

Actually, the lesson is to teach your kids that there are certain things you simply do not joke about.  SOme things are taken seriously every time.  Talk of harming the President is one of them.

Parenting caused this problem, not the teacher or the Secret Service.  Don't want shit, don't start shit, especially if you can't handle shit.

7th grade is plenty old enough to know right from wrong.  Our society is trying to convince us otherwise but it's bullshit.

I knew enough in 7th grade to know you don't threaten the president.   There are just some things you don't say, ever.  Cause the walls have ears.

I love the standard line, "it's a cry for help."  No its not, he farked up and needs to be taken care of.  If its medication or other means then so be it.  He certainly not crying out for help.

Parent will sue the school system 'cause little Bobby is now mentally scarred. Settle out of court. State school system will second guess the policy.

Fast forward 5 years, another student writes an essay about killing someone. Stabs someone 2 days later. Victim's parents sue school because no action was taken. Cycle repeats

Same here.  I don't think today's nannies would have looked too fondly on my pictures of armored columns destroying my middle school.  Personally, I thought they were rather well done, combined arms and everything!

The TEACHER had the discretion of reporting some kid's facetious essay to the SS and wasting their time.  I realize that the SS have no choice at that point.

BINGO!

Max_Mike, I understand that the SS has to investigate every threat brought to them. But this is just pure .

Over-reacting teachers, principles and government "people" are just as much the problem as bad parenting. The teacher should have contacted the principle, the principle should have called the parents in and told them, "you better get help for your kid and we'll be watching him very closely or you'll have to deal with the consequences of his problem." There is NO way the SS should have been called over this. Maybe I live back in the 1950's and think most parents should be able to handle getting help for their mentally screwed up kids, but this is just pathetic. Just pathetic.

The teacher is The principle is The SS wasting our tax dollars on some 7th grader is and this whole situation is

Just like that little black girl who the teacher didn't want to control, so she call the cops, the cops put the kid in hand cuffs and basically thrashed her around. The cops didn't use good judgement, the teacher shouldn't have that job and the parents should have taught their child better.

America + the 21st Century = Over-reacting morons.

"It may be a certain opinion of a certain individual whom I have no knowledge of that they would like to hurt the president."-This was borrowed from a website I am not affiliated with and forgot to provide a link to. These opinions are in no way my own, and I wholeheartedly disagree with any violence towards any president, especially hillary, becuz she is teh god.

Whew, I think I went through all the correct precautions, the SS can't touch me now!

The only people who should be investigated for threats against POTUS should be 18+. And why are we concerned w/ a 12 yr. old when we are being told Osama wants to hit us again? (As if thats a surprise)
