+1 for Primus. I remember seeing an interview with James Hetfield talking about the bass player auditions for Metallica when they were trying to replace Cliff and one of the people that auditioned was Les Claypool. James laughed real hard and said he was great but that the two styles would not mix well and that Les was better off doing his own thing. One of the best Bass players ever.

My contribution would be "The Cult". Never got the respect they deserved.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.  Completely underrated IMHO, they've been churning out under the radar hit albums for decades.
