i woke up the other night with a terrible leg cramp. my wife thinks drinking about a gallon of diet coke a day would throw off my potassium level and cause a cramp. ever hear of such a thing?

Nope, but there could be other things in your diet that are preventing you from getting enough potassium. Low-carb diets are a problem, since they don't allow you to eat much fruit (which tends to be high in potassium).

If the cramps persist, you might try throwing a couple pinches of potassium chloride salt substitute (NoSalt or similar) in your Diet Coke. It'll give you more potassium than most tablet supplements do , and doesn't taste too bad when dissolved in the Coke, either.
