I got a letter today from:

Prayer by Letters
Saint Matthew's Churches
P.O. box 22065
Tulsa, OK 74121-9706

It had a piece of paper printed like a rug that has been imbued with the power of prayer. I'm supposed to kneel on it as I express my needs to the Lord, then return it to the church along with a donation to help with His work. They cite participants who have been miraculously given new cars, thousands of dollars, etc. There's a space to fill in with my particular desires. (If the threesome with two strapping black chicks really happens, I'll report it in this thread. Stay tuned.)

So here's my question: If I tape the postage-paid return envelope to a nicely-wrapped brick, will the post office deliver it?

I've got a great idea!

Throw it in the garbage.

Problem solved.

Holy shit!

I got one of those too. It was so fucking creepy I shredded the whole packet. It was talking about how if you bought some prayer rug you'd win $49K at the indian casino or some shit. How did we both end up on that mailing list? I'd sure like to know.

ETA: Edit your post to include mail order praryer rugs in the title, I'd like to know how far spread this shit is.

By Federal law, they have to deliver it. "Church" will pay processing fee + first class postage by weight and size.

Don't send anything organic or they could charge you with sending waste through the mail.

Done. California to New Hampshire, they've covered the continent. I laughed out loud when I asked myself the same question - how I got on that mailing list. It annoys me greatly to think that there are simple-minded folks out there who will actually send them money, though.

Mine is now waiting in the outgoing mail stack, taped to a brick. My girlfriend has vowed to slip it into the mailbox tomorrow morning when she leaves for her doctors appointment.

There is actually Biblical tradition on prayer cloths.

But Paul never charged anyone 29.95 for one.

And he didn't sell miracle spring water either...

Why? There are plenty of simple minded people who sent John Kerry money, and he can actually do some damage.

They also bought pet rocks and Madonna's latest album.

What are you gonna do. Stupidity is part of the human charachter, and people make money off of it in all sorts of ways.

I thought you might say "Take it in the back yard and post pics of what a 55gr FMJ would do to it"

I feel let down.

Send me a digital camera and I'd be happy to post some.

Gee...I thought I was the ONLY one that got a paper prayer rug...
Link Posted: 1/29/2006 3:25:52 PM EDT
I got that prayer rug as well. I was pretty surprised that it didn't come out and ask for money.
The whole "send this paper prayer rug back immediately so we can send it on to someone else" was friggin' hilarious.

It makes nice wrapping paper.

I got one too. About 4 months ago.
