Officials Break Up Texas Identity Theft Ring

(CBS 11 News) DALLAS Federal, state, and local investigators say they've dismantled a major identity theft ring. Officials seized hundreds of fake ID’s and arrested two men.

The ‘North Texas Identity Theft Task Force’ arrested the two men after a month-long investigation. They each face two counts of tampering with a government record... a second degree felony.

Dallas County prosecutors call it a one-stop shopping identity theft operation.

Federal, state, and local agents seized some 500 items including - phony drivers’ licenses, social security cards, inspection stickers, Mexican birth certificates and marriage licenses.

"A criminal from Mexico could come over from the United States and assume a different ID and vice versa. These look like legitimate documents and they have legitimate documents they're making the false ID's with," said Toby Shook, Deputy District Attorney.

Investigators arrested two men early Tuesday morning inside storefronts along Lake June Road in Dallas.

Eddy Lara remains in the Dallas County Jail on an immigration hold and Olaniran Gabriel Oni, a naturalized citizen, posted bond.

The DA's office, Secret Service, DPS and Rowlett Police began their undercover investigation last month after receiving a tip.

“One of the suspects we had under surveillance actually took a photo outside standing next to a car and put a blue background behind the person and then he was paid $200 to manufacture an ID," Shook said.

Investigators say they have no indication of how long this operation has been going on.

Prosecutors say ID theft is a major problem that keeps growing every year.

Maybe we should start a website that will allow the supporters of illegals
to donate their social security numbers to the illegals...........

Hey, it is a worthy cause that you believe in, right?
Why should someone that wants the illegals deported
have to get their identity stolen and their credit ruined
when the illegals supporters are the ones that make it possible?

But but but but . . . they are only doing the jobs Americans won't do . . .
