I believe a fallow is an imported species normally found on game farms.
Link Posted: 1/24/2006 4:23:36 PM EDT
I don't do much hunting, but I am fairly sure that in CT at least, you can't shoot a deer that still has it's "spots". Anyone, I would write that deer off as wasted. I wouldn't eat that meat after that, not that there is much to it to begin with?

As a side note, I have that same shirt!

I think that guy is a member here. I remember him posting about it. Said he shot it head on, i think cause the deer moved when he fired. Somthing like that. He posted several posts about his hunting of hogs and such with his AR's... Cant quite remember his name.

Those deer are a LOT bigger than the one he shot.

Axis deer. Yep, kill them facist bastards before they repriduce and drive out the native deer.

Notice the SEASON? This is CLEARLY a NON-GAME species, hunted legally in a closed season for game species.

Duh.

Here in Missouri there's no regulation against shooting fawns, whether you have an Any Deer tag or Antlerless Only. When I have enough tags and a doe with fawns comes through, I shoot the doe first because the fawns will either freeze up or run a short distance and come back. It's nice to drop a couple within 20 yards of each other.

I've seen those Fallow deer on TV before, and I like their palmated antlers. I don't want to get one at a game farm though, so I'll likely never get to shoot one.

I guess he brought enough gun. Damn.

I took my Savage .308 hunting a couple years ago, I'm glad I didn't get a shot because now I wonder if there would be anything left over.

I'd guess you were using only the very best in low grade thermo nuclear tipped ballistic hollow points.

Looks like an axis to me

On a side note I took two axis over the christmas break with my AR
Link Posted: 1/25/2006 5:58:35 PM EDT
What was it shot with?

I shot a coyote in the head with a 150 grain TAP from 80 yards with my PSS that looked about like that.
Link Posted: 1/25/2006 7:06:37 PM EDT
A head shot from a .243 Win would do that...provided it was a 55 grain BT moving at over 4100 FPS and hit at somewhere around 4000 FPS.

The rifle in the picture is a long action. A .257 Weatherby with 60 grain HP would do similar damage. It is a velocity thing, NOT a caliber/weight issue.

You want to do the same with your AR? Make it a 24" barrel with 35 grain bullets...or 30 grainers. Make sure to hit the head and NOT the jaw.

I shot a doe in muzzleloading season and hit it right between the eyes. A .50 cal 295 gr hollowpoint powerbelt left a nice round hole and exited through the ear. No tracking required.
